Are these mp3s or some other format? What happens when you go down the right click/save as route?

    Music for Babies

My five-month old is really into early Motown - Martha Reeves and Stevie Wonder especially. Also Le Tigre's Deceptacon. Just singing the riff from that is a guaranteed grin. And when I first played her SAW I her face was "OMG this is the sound that's been inside my head all this time!". Brilliant.

    Benjamin Britten

I don't know enough to recommend any specific songs, but if you like that English folk tune + off-kilter harmony thing, then as well as Britten have a look out for songs by Herbert Howells, Peter Warlock and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Really loving this, and the papertrail of blogposts that goes with it. Top idea, Droid, and a fitting way to round things off. Don't know what a dilettante like me is doing in the middle there, but thanks for the opportunity to muck around like this!

    Horatiu Radulescu 1942-2008

I know there are some Radulescu fans here who'll be very sad to hear the news that Radulescu died yesterday after a long illness. Avant Garde Project nos.85 and 109-111 are a good introduction to his music. This Paris Transatlantic interview from last year is worth a read. RIP :(

    Slowdive Ligeti link

Ligeti wasn't studying with Stockhausen as such, but Artikulation was written in the Cologne studio where Stockhausen was working at the time. This is in 1958, a couple of years after Ligeti left Hungary, from whence he travelled to Cologne to hook up with Stockhausen at the studio. I think he...

    Olympics

Hoy should get that, but it's going to Adlington isn't it? Hoy for a knighthood. Really hope that the British athletics team spend most of the next four years talking to the cycling and rowing teams. They're clearly streets ahead of everyone at the moment in terms of producing elite sportsmen...

    Books about 20th Century Classical

Skip Alex Ross then, he's pretty weak on the avant garde. Paul Griffiths is probably your man - Modern Music and After is your book. Also try Arnold Whittall's Musical Composition in the Twentieth Century.

    Redirecting a domain name

I've been asked to take over the running of a small website; one of my first jobs is to find some new webspace for it. I've got that part of it sorted, but I have no idea how to get the original domain name (which we want to keep, obviously) to point to the new server. Anyone know of a good...

    undelivered mail spam

I get tons of these Jenks, with someone faking up the domain name of a site I run. Other than the annoyance of lots and lots of junk email that your spam filters won't pick up, it doesn't actually harm you in any way (for a while I was worried someone had hacked the domain name, eg, but it turns...

    are brits the weirdest euros?

Broadly speaking, Zhao, I think we Brits think of ourselves as the least European of Europeans, and there are a lot of reasons why that might be - trans-Atlanticism, island vs continent (and the difference that makes historically - no successful invasions in 1,000 years, fixed borders, etc)...
