    Classic Synth/Electronic Sounds

Sure they are, I just thought they were so well known that it wasn't nescessary to name any classics. I agree that Vangelis have made some truly horrible stuff, but he have also made some of my all time favorite music. Albedo 0.39 is a far out electronic progstravaganza, Soil Festivities is...

    Classic Synth/Electronic Sounds

Not really electronic, is it? For Oldfield, Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge are the ones (though not electronic either). Especially Hergist Ridge, a truly wonderful, criminally underrated masterpiece.

Yeah, it's brilliant, as is their first and Techo Primitiv, but they all have vocals on them.

    Classic Synth/Electronic Sounds

Hm, there's so many I hardly know where to start. But Subotnicks Silver Apples of the Moon, as already mentioned, is certainly a stone cold classic. And a lot of Conrad Schnitzler: Blau is probably the palce to start. Gelb, Con and especially Conal are equally classic. The usual suspects...

    Burial "Untrue"

The missing tracks are just the intro and outro, short pieces of sound effects and movie dialogue, so you're not missing anything really essential, even though they could easily have been on the vinyl. As for the CD working better, well, that depends... I actually think the CD was just a bit...

    Idm

Well, what music is really intended to be or listened to as dance music exclusively? This is what I find most odd about this old distinction between dance music and listening music - the idea that "dance music" is only for dancing and have to be heard in a club to work (it's also why I find the...

    Newish House/Techno LP's I should own

Songs for the Gentle is on vinyl. And a good thing too, because it's a really wonderful album. Further recommendations: Manasyt: Filthdonor Goliath: Mineral Kingdom Pole: Steingarten (not the glitch-dub-minimalism of old, more like a technofied version of Jan Jelineks Kosmischer Pitch)

    good live albums/recordings

Mike Ink: Live Evil 1 + 2 - brilliant live acid. Air Liquide, Orbital, Speedy J and The Speed Freak have all made good live records. And Mouse on Mars' Live04 is also pretty hard hitting, even though I would have preferred a live recording of one of their more improvised two man-sets. And...

    vangelis help!

Vangelis made some crap, but the good stuff outnumbers the bad IMO. Lots of gems to discover. My personal favorites: Soil Festivities (deep, strange and mystical electro-orchestral ambient) Beaubourg (amazing avant garde) Albedo 0.39 (freaked out electronic prog) Mask (dark, heavy...

    The God / Dawkins Delusion

Well, haven't Dawkins made it clear that he thought more or less the same about Gould?

    The Dub Scale

Wagner is infinitely more dub than Primal Scream. Actually, if you're suggesting that Wagner is somehow the opposite of dub, you're dead wrong. He was pretty much the first composer to engulf himself in sound-in-itself, his music is full of deep, heavy, oceanic soundspaces, and in a way he was...

OPERA - breaking new, gossip, slander, lies etc.

Of those I only know the Boulez version, which is excellent. But there's countles editions of Bluebeards Castle, and it's possible to find many of them dirt cheap as second hand lp's, so it's easy to check some different versions out. I don't think you should dismis this one right away...

OPERA - breaking new, gossip, slander, lies etc.

Janacek, YES! Sometimes I think he's simply the best composer of opera ever, even better than Wagner. If you wan't to find more like "From the Hose of the Dead", you should begin with his other operas, they're more or less masterworks all of them. I'd say begin wiht "The Cunning Little Vixen"...

    Synth Recommendations

Well yes, if you're playing a piano, or something with sounds that work with a similar dynamic. What I meant was that the idea that weighted keys are necessary to learn to play right seems like a slightly, um, "piano-centric" view of keyboard playing. Organs and organ playing, for example...

    Synth Recommendations

I dunno, I've never had a synth with weighted keys and they do nothing for me - I actually find them a bit annoying, often. It has no importance for the way I use the instrument. Of course, I'm not much of a keyboard player anyway, but I really like to make dynamics with the synth knobs while...

Top 50 Dance Albums of the Nineties?

Yeah OK, that paper was pretty amazing and got me into the whole thing for some time, but then, it was also such a complete mess, like they had no idea what they wanted the whole thing to turn into yet, and I guess that was also how it was to begin with. In a few years, though, it became just...

    Synth Recommendations

That's an odd statement I think. Are you suggesting that the technique of a church organist isn't "right"? There's different keyboard approaches, equally valid depending on what you want to do. Sure, if you want to play piano, you should get weighted keys. If you want to play synth, I don't...
