I passionately hate the stuff Scuba is doing with live guitar and bass, I can't think of a less promising direction for dubstep to go in. Obviously I can't confess these sentiments on Dubstepforum or I'd get banned for life.
It's funny the way this 'Musicians ought to suffer for their art' argument only ever seems to come from people who will save money as a result of that suffering. It's also funny the way you never hear it from musicians themselves.
Had a good time too - last time I got really bored of everything being half-step, but I've listened to so many dubstep mixes in the intervening months that it now feels totally right and normal - except this time I got bored of everything lacking melody. Is Skream the only producer making tunes...
Just twiddled my way randomly to a pirate radio station playing soca, and it actually reminds me in a way of happy hardcore - so bafflingly fast and dense and cheerful.
I really like glitchy piano stuff, like the Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto collaborations which we've talked about elsewhere. I can also recommend the Post Piano LP by Skotz/Kolgen on 12K.
