The impenetrable world of classical music

Beethoven's String Quartet 15 Opus 132 (have I got this all ass-backward?) is rather lovely, can anyone recommend a good recording of it? Predictable to the end, I'm always up for a bit of Debussy too. The thing is, I just go into the classical music section of shops and am utterly baffled.

    Least favourite arenas of pedantry

I just do not care a tinker's cuss that the 'Union Jack' should only be referred to as such if it is on board a ship so please stop writing to the London Lite about it.

    crappest indie attempts at modernity

I googled The Nubiles today, in an effort to hear their song 'Layabout' which I recall quite liking in about 1705, only to find that they had a song called 'Single Mum Barbie'. Can anyone think of a more risible attempt at being all archly cynical and contemporary? Anything about slaying...

    Resemblances

Can anyone beat this? While on holiday in Africa, a gentleman informed me (in apparent seriousness) that I resembled Capleton. Anyone on here who has been unfortunate enough to glimpse my pallid, consumptive visage will know that while I may share the Fire Man's views on sexual freedoms*, I...

tune ID, house (sorry, I know it's boring)

House tune from around 2003, came out on a white label (from San Francisco, I think). Has a Dusty Springfield sample on it: 'Just a little loving, early in the morrr-ning'. Sorry, I know this is really boring but I REEEEEAAAAALLY want to know...

    Yusef Lateef

Only got Eastern Sounds, which is well wicked. What else is good? I can't be bothered with any boring bop stuff (I don't know that he's done any, but lots of people have haven't they?), only weird stuff and exceptional bop. Cheers.

    Sartorial error

When I was about 15 or 16, I went to Sheri's on Ganton Street and bought a three-button, two-vent dogtooth suit. I used to wear it quite a lot (with a black shirt and a white tie) and I thought I looked RAD and that girls were bowled over by my dangerous mod panache. I found some photos the...

    misheard lyrics

It must be very widely understood by now that the lyrics to Purple Haze do not involve the line 'scuse me while I kiss this guy' and that Blowing in the Wind has nothing to do with ants, so if anyone's going to try those on they can jolly well clear orf and not bladdy well come back. However...

    Boozeless cold remedies

I have a frightful cold. Does anyone have any recipes to alleviate my symptoms? I'm especially keen on hot drinks. My normal remedies (loads of orange juice, a ferocious garlicky curry, eating a raw pepper, watching Inspector Morse) have done me no good this time. Please help, I'll even eat a...
