An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

Not where I live, it's not. Well, you've made my point exactly. Who do you think "the state fair circuit" actually is ? The state fair crowds are exactly what I am talking about in regard to non-urban working class, and I hope that you're not speaking disparagingly of that crowd because if...

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

I have a general question that I've always wanted to ask folks here: When Oasis first broke in the UK and US* a lot of my friends perceived the UK press' championing of Oasis as a pretty transparent attempt to reclaim some relevancy for UK rock in the wake of Nirvana, grunge, the Seattle...

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

Ah, I see. Yeah definitely, you're right, they had more than one hit and were pretty ubiquitous at one point on modern rock radio.

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

I'd disagree with this too - I have no chart data to base my impression on, but I'd guess that Wonderwall was far and away the most popular Oasis song in the US.

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

I'd have to disagree with this somehwat, I think. "Very very little working class rock" ... (hoping not to sound sarcastic at all here) What then would you call bands like Creed, Nickelback, Daughtry, and so many other bands of the Big-Scratchy-Man-Voice-Over-Power-Chords template? That music...

pimp c of ugk - RIP

Rest in eternal peace indeed, so sad. Matt Sonzala has done a tribute show and now has posted a moving interview with Bun B in the wake of the tragedy. http://houstonsoreal.blogspot.com/

    bassline house

I've been listening to a fair share of bassline as well, for the simple reason that I enjoy it - studio beatz didn't have the mix that i ordered so sent me five others instead, which in a way was even better. Not sure why Woebot has to refer to the recent press as "tragically ugly" but hey...

    BelowCLevel Show on www.jungletrain.net

Hi beebe i'll definitely be tuning in :D but for future reference i think (could be wrong) that these announcements usually go in the 'events, releases, sales, and mixes' forum ... cheers to the n'orleans subvert crew!

    Burial "Untrue"

Nice interview at cyclic defrost - again he mentions his brothers, which he's been doing since the first interview he gave for the debut record. I remember thinking then, 'if steve spacek and d-bridge had a younger brother... ' though the talk about 'testing' songs at night and taking 'keys'...

    Thanksgiving

Thanks so much, mistersloane, very thoughtful of you. It's been an embarrassment of riches today indeed, courtesy of dissensus, what with your contribution and GFC's old tapes, which gobbled up nearly my entire morning of listening ... :D

    design question

Ah yes, well that makes perfect sense in the context you describe, and is probably entirely correct. :D

Two minutes spent reading about the history of racecar engineering will disabuse you of your error.

    design question

I remember that design change with the taurus so well, too! How funny. The first rounded-off Tauri (lolz) must have been around about '87-88, just going from memory of folks who had them where I lived. Sports cars seemed to lead the way in roundness, or streamlined-ness, for putative reasons...
