    Minimal house anthems

New Pig and Dan album Imagine - good, tr*ncey minimal house in the Cocoon style. See especially Globetrotter for some Orbital inspired action. Supermayer album - good moments, overall dissapointment, too much noodling ambience. Chloe album sampler - I like this, also the Matias Aguayo remix...

    Newish House/Techno LP's I should own

Kompakt Total 8 is very good, tracks by Koze and Kohncke stand out. Andy Stott - Merciless (Modern Love) is essential Deepchord - Coldest Season (Modern Love) is also good (similar to Convextion, more melodic imo) Villalobos just did a mix for fabric which consists entirely of his own...

Smith n Hack - Space Warrior. Best House 12" this year so far by a mile. Both sides are ace. :)

nice one barry, been enjoying your work also. definitely with you re keeping it simple. the more you can do with fewer elements the better. listened again on headphones and i really like the bit where it breaks down in the acid dub, reminds me of Carl Craig 'Just Another Day'. my instinct is...

Modern d'n'b is rubbish - tune ID and a moan from an old man

Just heard this by high contrast, not sure how long it's been around. Really cool tune done in an old skool style, nothing ground breaking but I really like it. Reminds me of Omni Trio - Renegade Snares.

Like Ghosts (Haunted), reckon this is my favourite. The other mix is cool but needs to do more earlier on imo. Some of the leads on Interstellar are great, personally I'm not into the hook but sure some would be. An alternate stripped down version might be cool as an extra cut.

    UK Tech House

Yes to Swag. Great producers. Will be digging out Drum Hydraulics shortly. Saw Chris Duckenfield play not so long ago and he was ace. Never went to Wiggle, which I now regret, but Eukatech used to do these basement sessions in a pub off Oxford St which were always proper. Who do you have in mind?

    UK Tech House

Been clearing out some records recently and going back through some old UK tech house. There was a whole scene which got trampled in the wake of minimal house and techno, spearheaded by people like Terry Francis, Grant Dell, Asad Rizvi, 'Evil' Eddie Richards, Nathan Coles and Gideon Jackson...

    Current 2 step?

thanks for checking out the tune borderpolice, yr input is much appreciated. vox snippets are off jodeci freak 'n'you. if you were going to resurrect 2step how would you go about it? it'd be difficult because 2step is so inseperable from those old skool sounds (organ basslines, the standard...

    Current 2 step?

for what it's worth i just finished a 2step thing recently. have a listen here. also check out the hessle audio stuff. there's a hungarian artist called trg who makes great modern sounding 2step. in the right hands 2step could be due a proper renaissance. it's a shame that the groove...

    Minimal house anthems

Had top minimal action last weekend in Berlin. Heard Samim play Heater at Watergate - big one for the summer though I'm more into the idea of it than the tune itself. Then to bar 25 for the minus party on Sunday. That place needs to be seen to be believed. Was still going well into Tuesday...

    Do you pay for mp3s?

Right, so this is equivalent to the fee that you pay MCPS when you manufacture eg a compilation and you have to pay the pubishers for the mechanicals. Sorry, been a while ;). Never realised that they leveraged this fee on mp3s as well.

    Do you pay for mp3s?

So does that mean that the only money you're getting from the mp3s is as publisher? If so that's shocking.

    Do you pay for mp3s?

I buy quite a few mp3s online, and probably spend as much on mp3s as I used to on vinyl. Bleep and boomkat are good, kompakt is good for the odd minimal track. Beatport used to be good until they hiked the price up to 1.50 for each track, meaning that a 4 track ep can be more expensive on mp3...

Good Audio Input Device for Powermac G5

Good firewire based audio interface manufacturers: MOTU (you can pick up an ultralite for around 350 quid, or look for an old 828 on ebay - they're really solid) RME (fireface 400 is around 500 quid) I don't know of any with a tube gain stage, though it's unlikely that you'll find high quality...

    non-D&B made by D&B producers

Matrix did quite well with that prog house tune sampling Jill Scott, as Goldtrix I think. Adam F did well with his US hip hop stuff tho I didn't like it much. Photek 'Mine to Give' was also big with the house djs. However I don't think that many dnb djs paid much attention to the more leftfield...

    Tell No One (Film)

I've never had a problem with mindless films but I suppose that's a matter of personal taste. I do think that it's well shot and I thought the plot twists were clever. It could perhaps be a bit shorter, that's true.

    Tell No One (Film)

Must reccomend this film unreservedly. It's a French movie based on thriller by Harman Coben. The plot centres on a a dead woman who reappears to her husband 8 years after her murder in a video on the internet. It's a traditional thriller which involves technology in a meaningful way, and offers...
