Modern d'n'b is rubbish - tune ID and a moan from an old man

Yeah! From about 96 maybe? It's actually still going. There's like one mail every six months.

    woebot's djing post

Frankly, I think doing wedding-style DJing, where you have to satisfy people from aged 8-80, from all different backgounds and places, is harder than playing an upfront set to a discerning club.

Modern d'n'b is rubbish - tune ID and a moan from an old man

That's pretty much it. He's a lovely fella with strong opinions about music. It's only music after all!

    Other tunings

Yeah, totally. A total technician though as well - he based a scale on human speech and built a rake of unique instruments. And became a hobo for ten years for the buzz. There's an excellent documentary about him on youtube:

Modern d'n'b is rubbish - tune ID and a moan from an old man

I admire your optimism, but the mainstream has clearly ditched Jungle's greatest characteristic elements - non-linearity and rhythmic invention. Most of it sounds like obnoxious pub rock or smug, big-room 90s house.

    Indo Jazz

Well, yeah, it was a laarge generalisation of course. I see what you're saying about classical music too, but I was quite surprised to discover something recently, watching a TV programme made by Derek Bailey about improvising music. Basically, a lot of classical stuff had cadenzas where the...

    Indo Jazz

It's really the case that Indian Classical Music is pretty much jazz anyway, though, right? Highly skilled musicians improvising over standards? Or is it that jazz is pretty much Indian Classical Music? Someone get Winton on the phone, his reign of terror is OVER!

    Public Enemy- Greatest band ever!

They didn't need instruments, they had fake Uzis. Guitars, my arse! There's a couple of good video interviews done for Red Bull. He seems like a lovely fella. http://redbullmusicacademy.com/LECTURES.95.0.html?act_session=184 My first time was 'You're gonna get yours' off this Def Jam...

    Favourite Jungle MCs

I like my MCs with Maximum Authority. It's all about the confidence. Minimal rhyming too, please. Not none, but certainly not endless skibadadibada. GQ is pretty much the blueprint for that style. His voice just commands. Pure consistent too, right up to this day. Dynamite, on his day was...

Modern d'n'b is rubbish - tune ID and a moan from an old man

Not true, unfortunately. When I started DJing (94ish), I was working in a record shop that sold small amounts of Jungle, and fuckin loads of progressive house. The abuse I got was unbelievable!! It was good natured, but there was clearly a load of 'clubbers' who looked at jungle and the like as...

    Starting a club night

There's a lot of really good advice here. All i'll say is, WORK HARD. Put in the time even when you don't want to. If you have a little cru to help you out, your enthusiasm will be infectious. Only give jobs to people you know will do them well, otherwise do it yourself. Be prepared to lose...

    downloading music

Of course people will be able to hack it, but most people won't bother. If it's easier for them, or if they actually want to pay for it, they will.

    WOEBOT.tv

I love all that shit! Really. I know what you're saying though, it is practically nothing to do with music. However! The filter thing is just annoying. I'm listening to this episode, and it's great, but there's not much point in watching it.

    Second Division Krautrock

Good question, conicidentally me and a mate were trying to find out the exact same thing the other night. We didn't get very far, but it was about five in the morning. I think there was more minimal stuff than Prog, but i'm open to correction...

Sly & the Family Stone - 'Collection' (2007)

I often find myself surprised when I hear them. Surprised at just how fucking good they are. I have a vague impression they never really got the props they deserved, really. Their songs are just so perfectly formed.
