prynne, leary & thinking in stages

I did not know of the existence of the Prynne Oliver letters. Douglas Oliver doesn’t get talked about so much at the moment but he’s an unusual figure, less fractally oblique than Prynne but often surprising.

Maybe not - maybe the Vampire's Castle is a maze of twisty passages, all alike. Why this is the Vampire's Castle, nor am I out of it.

Teddy Dog 3 years ago (edited) Though I admit I’m not totally saturated in the work of this band (It gets harder and harder to do when the field is crowded withs so many other visionary contenders) for whatever reason this one has been my favorite. I also liked the soundtrack they did for the...

Verucca King, the master of warts A super villain, strong and wicked, He spreads pain and suffering Wherever he goes, he's ready, To touch and poison With warts that no one misses, But one day a hero came Who defeated him and triumphed, Sandpaper Man, the master of sanding Verucca King, now...

Big Mood: Peli's theory of vibe

I like Olson's "the poem itself must, at all points, be a high-energy construct and, at all points, an energy-discharge".

Big Mood: Peli's theory of vibe

I am coming around to the view that Peli is right about the visual domain - autoencoders do seem to be uncannily good at extricating the whatness of images - but possibly not about poetry. I mean I'm sympathetic to the argument that poetry is what he says it is, but unpersuaded by any AI so far...

is this the worst album ever made?

Burial has managed to spin straw into gold for longer than I’d have expected. Rival Dealer was the last thing that really turned my head. I think he does one thing every five years or so that actually leaves a mark, and there’s a lot of little études in between, some quite charming but mostly a...

is this the worst album ever made?

I have a soft spot for Teardrop. Never listened to a whole Massive Attack album until a few years ago when I was staying at a cousin’s house and they had Mezzanine and I stuck it on. I liked the bits that sounded a bit metal but it didn’t leave a deep impression otherwise. Always got the sense...

    poetix made an album

Three more since the last. "Diagonal", a song in which I try to imagine Green Gartside getting heavily into Badiou: "It's a Grind", a sort of New Order/Simple Minds-ish thing "One For The Gallery", a song from the perspective of one of the human clones bred for organ donation in Kazuo...

I love how every one of this woman’s videos exclusively features her in cleavage-covering practical clothing working hard at carpentry etc, but is advertised with a still prominently featuring her prodigious bosoms. Well-played, that shieldmaiden.

Just do a monthly thing - donations at the door to cover the room hiring cost - strange sonics and scintillating skeins of words - a word-of-mouth thing that slowly takes hold, in eighteen months it will be a full-blown psychedelic cult, the Temple Ov Psychic Middle Age.

I thought Luka’s poetry fared well in other hands, which is an interesting litmus test - if only the poet can read it properly, maybe it hasn’t fully grown its wings. But if it instructs others in how to read it well, tickles them, makes them come alive a bit, that has to be a good sign.

It appears that I drove Out To Lunch from that place of gentle japery with my power-stancing and virile delivery. “Who is this overbearing felliow,” he may perhaps have thought, “and why is he so tense and devoid of playfulness?”

Any word on a PA? There's some noise-making bits I'll bring if there's something I could plug them into, but won't bother if there isn't.
