    comics

There are translations, at least english and german (which I read). But I don't know if they are in print. I envy France and Belgium for their wealth of bande dessinés, I always plan to refresh my school french enough so I don't have to wait for translations that never happen, but I never find...

    comics

I think this Garfield minus Garfield thing started with just Garfield's talk bubbles removed, that's maybe even creepier. See also the Garfield Randomizer: http://www.dougshaw.com/garfield.html Strips are usually not my cup of tea, but my love for Peanuts is deep and true.

    comics

I'm currently rereading League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 1, fun stuff. I'll hopefully get Vol. 3 soon, it must not be sold outside of the US for some weird copyright reasons and apparently retailers are pretty strict about this, but someone I know is about to score copy for me, yay...

    uk rock versus us rock

They're from France. And to be fair it has to be said that Craig Clouse (ca. 50% of Shit and Shine) is an American, Texas if I recall correctly, who's been living in the UK for a while but started out in the late 80s/early 90s noiserock scene. I believe he was even part of Hammerhead at one...

    the wire

Spot on. I can't think of an issue that didn't have something worthwile and interesting in it. Of course not everything is gold, but that's probably impossible.

    Yellow Swans ...

Great band. Too bad they're breaking up, one of the best noise acts around, they have the rare ability to conjur a storm of noise that actually sounds really beautiful. Hopefully the follow-up projects will turn out good. Unfortunately I never had the chance to see them live.

    fuck buttons

I think it's very hard to make a statement about the noise scene, as it's a very broad thing, not narrow at all. Or not even one thing but different things which contradict each other. Compare Wolf Eyes to Aube to Maja Ratkje to Jessica Rylan to Daniel Menche to Mattin etc. etc., it's all very...

    fuck buttons

From what I heard of Fuck Buttons, which is admittedly not very much, they reminded me of a light version of Yellow Swans. Not totally rubbish, but missing the magic. I'll probably see them on their tour with Battles in a month with two, maybe they're better in person.

Stella - evil in a can?

I don't really buy it with beer, but I've noticed that people who are drunk on absinthe (not in the hallucinatory state, which I think is pretty hard to reach with today's legal absinthe) often start to randomly spout abuse from one minute to the other, almost tourette's like. It's kind of funny...

    late 90s tech-step

Yes, something like Phantom Force would fit better. Early Matrix tracks were great, like the Springbox Remix.

    Vampire *fucking* Weekend

Never heard anything from them, but I'm already annoyed because I always see their name somewhere and think "yay, something new from (the excellent) Vampire Can't" and then realize it's not about them.

An open letter to Simon Reynold on his 'Brit Pop box' critique

I don't know what his original motivations were at the time, but I know that he has said on various occasions that his work as 'producer' (a word he normally doesn't use) on this record was a mistake. Bush aren't really Britpop/rock, of course they were from the UK but everything about them was...

    Music highlights of 2007

Yes, great album, totally in love with it. I try to get everything coming out on Root Strata and somehow Tarentel related. Looking forward to her Type album, apparently there's also a planned album collaboration with Inca Ore. :D

Hands up if you don't 'get' Led Zep?

I don't think I ever listened to a complete Led Zeppelin album

Humourless officious twats run the country: example no. 23, 751

Just asking because it's alway interesting to hear new "typical german" characteristcs other people see in us. I hope not everybody here treats you like that.

    Sartorial error

A bit more punkrock than new rave I think? Dunno, I've never seen someone I'd associate with new rave in person. Yes, Vic had the big flap over the laces. I still wear skate shoes, but only very understated models, no big logos. Some brands are really comfortable and durable.

    Sartorial error

You're kidding, right? I'd never wear that stuff today, but I still think this silly late 80s skateboard look is cool ... sort of. A friend of mine still has a pair of Airwalk Vic from that time that he wears occasionally.
