Went to a bib gourmand Indian tonight (Bombay Dreams) and the head chef of said Italian was sat at the table opposite, bottle of wine chilling by his side and the table covered in kebabs etc. Good sign...

Dispatches is a classic of sorts (and part of the inspiration for Full Metal Jacket) but I vastly prefer the stories of Thom Jones (some set in Vietnam) and also Sympathy for the Devil by Kent Anderson. No one should miss Thom Jones.

Have been relistening to that one over the past couple of days. Basically any Feldman involving Aki Takahashi has to be heard, and the recording in question is especially poignant as it's the premiere of Feldman's final composition and, as I understand it, he was in attendance.
