Hip-Hop - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

fair enough.. the album by itself doesnt give much insight cause its more a collection of his mainstream & single material. I think that his reputation was more based on his gangsta grillz mixtapes and dvd. Trap or Die is a good one to check out. he's a lot more candid on it than on the album.

Hip-Hop - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I don't think that theres anyone who does coke rap better. there may be other rappers who have more complex lyrics, but there's a reason he's the known as the dope boys' MC. he has something to say that you might not find interesting but a lot of people do: how to be successful in the dope...

Hip-Hop - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

like gumdrops said, Lord Willin' wasn't slept on outside the pitchfork set. It was inescapably huge.. in north america anyway. didn't one of their videos introduce the infamous "trucker hat"? anyways I agree with you on the got it 4 cheap mixtapes. mediocre and WAY overhyped by certain...

    100 Years of DENIAL

actually it's almost more absurd, given Mel Gibson's recent drunk-driving anti-semitic PR disaster

    100 Years of DENIAL

wow... this is bullshit. I'm a first generation Canadian descended from the Comerfords of Kilkenny County. The Irish side of my family is extremely nationalistic and devoutly Roman Catholic. My great grandfather witnessed bloody sunday. The Comerfords are well known for refusing to convert...

    New Justin Timberlake song.

That's a pretty contentious point, considering JD has publicly and controversially complained that he doesn't get the recognition he deserves in the production game. Whether or not it is deserved is one thing, but I think its an undeniable fact that he has exceptionally low recognition for a...

Wiley, JME, & DJ Maximum in Toronto, this Saturday! (the 8th)

well, no need for that because it's been cancelled.. grr Blackmarket, the primary promoter, cancelled the show at the last minute (this morning) because the original club it was going to be held at (Circa) has not opened, and this has complicated promotions to a point where Blackmarket deemed...

Drum and Bass fans invading Dubstep

I see what your saying in regard to the it's war / morbid release, but I really like a lot of the Newham Generals stuff that is drum and bass influenced. To me, tunes like "Tigerstyle" actualy capture good jungle vibes and have a sound that reminds me of early Brockie. Same with that mellow...

    triple 6 mafia

haven't heard the Little Brother CD.. but I find it strange that Drama uses the Gangsta Grillz tag for a Little Brother CD, considering all the shit Little Brother have talked about everything that "gangsta grillz" represents.

    triple 6 mafia

I don't think anyone knows for sure.. Bone Thugs and Twista had beef over it, but then decided that they both came up with the sound at the same time but independently. Then they made up and did a song together

    triple 6 mafia

anyone following the yo gotti v three 6 mafia beef? Drama's calling him "the real king of memphis". and he tears them apart on his new Gangsta Grillz tape, which is probably the best Gangsta Grillz since Trap or Die. I hope they come back with some responses

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

The posters are up for the Scream show, also being headlined by Dillinja and Lemon D. I found out that Rene and Carl Collins from Blackmarket Records are promoting the show. Should be a good one. Also, in regard to what Matt was saying about the need for a grime distributor, I agree. Back...

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

I definitly agree that blogging/writing is beneficial to a scene. I would say that along with 1xtra, record store websites, soulseek, rinse fm and the sites you listed, blogs contributed significantly to the widening of grime's fanbase. I just think that there has been an unprecidented amount...

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

Sorry, you and Blackdown are right. I shouldn't have called out blogging in particular, that was very sloppy of me. I still stand by my point that the overall amount of documentation and dialogue about grime has been way out of proportion to what is actually happening, and that that energy...

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

one other thing that I always thought was a problem with grime: The idea that blogging is some sort of integral, productive part of the scene. Although there are journalists in every scene, I think that in the past the limited number of publications kept the number of people writing in...

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

I think the story is that he's not physically allowed in the States anymore because he was deported for tax evasion.

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

I feel as though the turning point with grime came fairly early on, around the spring/summer of 2004 - although my chronology might be a bit off, as I followed it from north america via DC++. A few things seemed to happen around that time that made grime a lot less exciting. Deja stopped...
