    Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain

Noxagt are a Viola, bass, and drum trio from Norway. I would say their influences are Nordic. Crush heavy music in not the heavy drone stoner way, but lighting fast punches. Their earlier material is fun to listen to although nothing like their current line-up.

records that sound better at the wrong speed

There was a local band around here called Organz that consisted of three bassists, a singer, and a drummer. Their record sounded much better at 33rpm than 45, which made their hardcore antics more stoner and sludgy. Oddly enough, they broke up and one of them formed a band similar to Sleep.

    shoplifting

I would also like to note that Sam Goody's policy at the time was that their employees had to report to their manager about the theft, and the manager him/herself had to see the thief in action before doing anything. Of course, if you did walk off with an item, they also could not stop you once...

    shoplifting

Whoa. Why did I not see this thread until now? I use to take things from the terrible Sam Goody chain and a few bookstores. Although they had beepers, I used my brains and figured out that I would just swipe the tags with a large magnet taken from a broken speaker I had. Things would go fine...

final kick in the teeth for straight edge

Most of them prefer New Balances last time I checked.

final kick in the teeth for straight edge

Their use of straight edge is more subversive it seems with the "XXX" used in one of their tour posters on the Nike site. It probably isn't as overt as it could be seeing that recently "straight edge" was classified as a gang in a US state. But they definitely do use that Minor Threat cover,

    Kozyndan

It seems like Giant Robot magazine is all over this dude. I'm not really that into it myself. Just not my style.

    Kelly Clarkson Rulez!!!1

I'm pretty sure she did with some other guy. They were also starring in a movie, which probably flopped.

    dancing

I dance. I used to breakdance back in high school, but it's so cliche to do all these fancy moves. Now all I do is just move my lower body and do James Brown impersonations. Of course, at indie shows, I just bob my head up and down. No one really dances at those, unless it's some post-punk band...

    wonderful graffiti

<img src="http://www.picdump.org/albums/graffiti/2005_05_22.jpg"> I found this while walking in the woods for a photo project. For some reason it immediately conjures up Bruza's Freestyle track on Aim High Vol.2.

    Earth2 - drone, doom

I would say Khanate's "Things Viral" is probably my most favorite in the doom/drone since there was only the slightest hint of a beat.

    Earth2 - drone, doom

I had a deep interest in the doom-drone thing until I was just saturated and stopped caring. I have a friend who is an obsessive collector with this stuff and most things stoner and doom. I did see Thrones last summer and I thought it was amazing how Joe Preston was able to pull it off by himself.

    Ariel Pink gig in London.

I recently saw Ariel Pink with his posse in Chicago (at a university paid contest!). I thought he was pretty enjoyable, but his stage prescence is really goofy, which may or may not turn people off. I personally thought it was hilarious.

    Kung-Fu Films.

Don't forget the remake of Bruce Lee's "The Chinese Connection" that Jet Li starred in called 'Fists of Legend". It reinforces the Chinese stereotype of hating the Japanese. I really am a fan of Jet Li's other stuff that deal in medieval and foreign colonialism times. Also, I recently saw an...

    art into pop--abiding or ailing?

I definitely agree with this statement. It's kind of funny seeing how my band is probably the only band in the midwest United States who are all art students. We're planning on touring in a couple months around an art showing of one of our members. He's a print making major who's currently in...

    How "Indie" are you feeling?

Pretty indie! I've been going through my record collection and sorting all my junk to sell. Although some of it is non-indie stuff like Parliament, there's some hidden gems I completely forgot about, such as The Birthday Party.

A neo-hippie playing American pop hits such as the Spin Doctors' Two Princes in the downtown street corner.

Talking about the dirtbombs and covers, there's a Suicide cover of Ghostrider that the Gories play. It's pretty different from the original, and pretty good.

    Field recordings & indigenous peoples

Ryan, you should find out if your school has any recording equipment to borrow. There's been plenty of times where I've borrowed really nice microphones and DAT players from my university for bootlegging, even though the equipment is for film students.
