yeah phonica's probably the best...they get all the new stuff as it comes out but their selection of backlist isn't so great. staff /are/ knowledgeable but can be a bit offhand. like most record shops i guess...sisterray just round the corner has a decent selection too.

have you checked out much stuff on ostgut ton? the klock/dettmann 12 (dawning b/w dead man watches the clock) is superb dusky, brooding techno and the len faki delta remixes (on ostgut) are absolutely storming...worth checking out if you haven't already. ben klock's resident advisor podcast...

nope, not that one, tho it is a tune...and it's not the smith n hack remix either. it's *hunting horns* we're looking for...i suspect it hasn't been released yet. @ sodium nightlife: hector works at phonica (in london). looking forward to hearing his mix, but unfortunately my itunes won't...

yeah bar 25 is quite something. coincidentally, heard magda playing that konrad black tune at the t bar on thursday and thought exactly the same thing... tune i.d. please: the one being caned at secret sundaze yesterday (in case anyone was there) with the hunting horns coming in and out of the...

yeah it's fantastic - a genuinely surprising selection of tracks...i didn't expect to hear "the sun can't compare" and "congo man" in the same mix, but he pulls it off! that "heater" track of his with the accordion is just out on get physical...set to be massive this summer i suspect.

[licks lips] there was a great article on the bucharest scene in the most recent issue of groove...one of the dj's talked about how he and his friends used to tape the 20 second soundclips of techno tracks from the tv, and then painstakingly splice them together to create mixes...inspiring stuff!

cool -thanks for the info on that. speaking of romanians, that "de bou" track on the a:rpia:r comp thing is great

yeah it's been doing the rounds in rv's and luciano's sets of late. it's a tune for sure... glad you had a good time at fabric...to be honest i've given up on that place: coked up lary twats in ben sherman shirts do not a good night make...and it's always horrifically overcrowded

interesting that the backing from the Sosa track is there as well - hadn't noticed that before. i think you're probably right re: him using an old/spare drunk track...

    Minimal house anthems

re: for disco's only - obviously the most arresting element of the track is the vocal, but i wouldn't call the backing "substandard", sounds to me more like luciano on cruise control. not as crisply produced as his best, no doubt, but functional. actually there was a similar issue re: impact of...

    Minimal house anthems

no way! especially the a-side is stunning - hypnotic, delicate, beautiful. with you absolutely on the digitaline tho. argy's "unreliable virgin" on cocoon is bound to be an anthem this summer - not exactly a groundbreaking release but very effective. loco dice's remix of son of raw on...

misanthropy - why is it so bad?

but i think that's the whole point for certain types of misanthropes: the strength of their (negative) feeling becomes a raison d'etre...:slanted: returning to gek-opel's first post on the thread: yes, of course misanthropy is the hatred of people /in general/, of humanity, and as such is...

    woebot's djing post

the main point i'd make (echoing what gutterbreakz said) is that the amount of freedom a dj has, to play what s/he wants, what s/he thinks will constitute a coherent set, and not submit to the "have you got anything i can dance to?" brigade, is in inverse proportion to the stature of the dj. so...

    Minimal house anthems

haha. thing is, it's NOT by any means commercial-feeling, or slick, or expensive: it's in a disused factory/warehouse on the edge of a several-square-mile area of wasteground. it has old rotting sofas that look like they were found on a rubbish tip to sit on. it's got darkened cubicles you can...

yeah the bouncer who looks like the devil, with tattoos all over his face, is a right pr**k. i've got in fine four or five times, but was turned away once with no reason given (and ich spreche deutsch, too...). all i would say in their defence is: once you're in, anything goes, and it's not like...

    Minimal house anthems

on friday, yeah. the venue was really cool, you had to go up in a really primitive lift to the top floor of this empty office block. really nice, intimate space...only problem was the paucity of toilet facilities... music was really good too, tho it dropped off a bit towards the end i thought.

do you live in london tho? cos although it's not by any means berlin here, it ain't that bad either for minimal...e.g. yesterday afternoon at the t-bar: shackleton, kiki and silversurfer, roman flügel, konrad black and superpitcher... and all for free! the end and fabric regularly have good...
