Innovative rhythm programming - wtf? moments

It's 4/4, actually. The pattern of accents after the girl stops drumming is predominantly: XxxXxxXxxxXxxXxx ie 1231231234123123 And re: Shackleton, I don't think they're loops, thats what makes him so amazing.

    Dubstep

Aha - do you know any specific names or brands? This issue (whether vinyl sound, which I think is essentially a specific type of distortion vinyl gives to the original signal, can be replicated by other means) really interests me.

Paper Route Gangstaz - Fear and Loathing in Hunts Vegas

Does anybody know what the slightly breathy female vocal sampled in the first vid is? It sounds like the same sample Loefah used in Life Dub (off his first EP for Big Apple records), which I love... :)

    Jungle

I'd quite like to chime in here with a good word for London Elektricity - I think he has a very different vibe from the rest of current dnb, and his music has that enveloping beats-and-bass sound that all good 'nuum stuff has. The Power Ballads album my favourite.

320 Mp3 vs. Wav vs. FLAC

Yeah, easily - just try it and see! (say in a hi-fi shop, if you can't find anything better)

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I bought Horsepower's first release as an mp3 from dubplate, it broke, emailed them, and when they Yousent-it to me I was happy to find out that it was a 320.

    My Life as a Fake

I think there's an implicit assumption (this is just a blanket statement - not pointed at anyone in particular) underlying this discussion that doubt, feeling 'fake', or like you have something slightly to hide are bad, things to be avoided, and the ideal state would be one of perfect confidence...

    Great 2 Step?

Can you put Steve Gurley's Hotboys on it?

bill drummond and the 'future' of music

Hehe, no it doesn't. I think either the statement resonates with you (the reader) or it doesn't - Drummond certainly doesn't try to justify it in any logical way, he simply states that he personally felt it to be true. He admits throughout that most of his writing is contradictory and realizes...

    burial dj kicks mix

Oh, and go on, I'm excited because he has good taste and it'd be a good way of hearing some jungle tunes that I otherwise never would hear.

    burial dj kicks mix

This is a bit roundabout but the same question was asked on another message board and Martyn (the same) replied, after asking Burial or Kode9, and said that they had gotten permission for most of the samples after the record was released.

Classical samples in hardcore (+ others)

As noel emits suggested in the 'bankruptcy of nuum' thread, I'm gonna start a seperate thread about classical music being sampled in hardcore, and more generally dance. I'm a young 'un and only got into dance music with dubstep/grime/minimal/etc, and in those genres I always wondered why...

    bankruptcy of 'nuum as concept

Hey stelfox, Could you (or anyone) give some examples of tunes like this? I'm too young to have experience anything other than dubstep/grime/minimal/etc., and one of the things I always lamented in those genres is producers' seeming unwillingness to sample classical music, especially since you...

    dubstep starters....

I sort of agree with everything above, but if you can't go to clubs I think the best way to exprience the music is through records, so, get: anything at all on the DMZ label (you should be able to get a hold of #'s 3-13) the three 2562 12"s on the Tectonic label, and similarly all of Martyn's...

    Rustie

Aquacrunk is like the best name for a genre ever. I love this stuff Specifically, the feeling of complete immersion caused by all the bleeps and bobs flying about, mainly out of quantized time with the bass/kick/snare.
