    World of Echo reissue.

i never did hear the sufi record(s). i suppose that means i should get myself to slsk. (shhh shit i shouldn't have said that with matt around.) i finally heard <i>new clear child</i> in the summer of 2003 ($1 in a record sale), and listened to nothing else when i was going to bed for about six...

    World of Echo reissue.

i compared <i>calling out of context</i> to ar kane and the junior boys in a review i wrote back in march (?). i didn't think i was the first one, but maybe i was! there does seem to be a link ("mod" beats + heavy echo/reverb/texture + falsetto?)

it's far less fussed over than "calling out of context," more "pure". (whatever that means.)

    M.I.A. -- "Galang" on XL

her backstory seems pretty hardcore. (i don't make determinations about whether or not it makes people "credible." i don't think ex-crack dealers are cool people either.) she could be making it all up too. would that make it better or worse? i like her.

Mixtape-only tracks that deserve wider recognition

oh, and not really a mixtape tune, but kardi's "bellydancer" deserves to make it into every neptunes top 10 ever published and i dont even think it made it to a commercial release.

    The Kinks

"walter" is probably my favorite too. <i>village green</i> is probably my favorite 60s rock album (tho i fully admit its hard for me to get worked up about rock music prior to the late 70s) (with the obvious exceptions) (obviously.) when i got a used vinyl copy of some "greatest hits" lp, i...

    Tortoise

i think the people who look down their noses at the hipster intellectuals are actually former hipster intellectuals who've experienced a fun-fun-fun road to damascus moment. (and i should know, because i briefly was one.)
