Anthony "Shake" Shakir - "All we did was put a black face on it"

true, he never seems to have a chip on his shoulder, you can understand how some of his Detroit peers feel marginalized geographically because of Detroits social problems and under-appreciated musically (certainly within the states) but you get the impression that people like omar s. mad mike...

    Dubstep

i'm no fan of carnage behind the decks and the need to remove subtlety in favor of something bombastic (no ref. too shaggy lol) and aggressive and kind of leads to overblown production values, the music suffers as a consequence, as in the case of dnb obsession with the massive 'drop' its...

The oneman interview on blackdowns blog is great. one of the best interviews i've read in ages. it's great to hear people talk about playing records with alot of consideration and passion and really struck me how unconservative and backward/forward thinking people like Alexander nut, ben ufo...

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

I can see the appeal of ableton for live performance, for a kind of on-the-fly improvisation, but i rarely ever see it used creatively to dj other peoples tracks, lets face it we've all seen so many tedious techno or house sets where somebody crouched over a mac book playing a pre-mixed and...

    Dubstep

yeah think it started as a serious heckle during a kode set (i think?), then people kept shouting it out as piss-take. it was discussed somewhere far far up-thread, think it may have even been corpsey who started it. lol the meme-like.. spread of the heckle.

Hall of Shame - pitiful events of immense embarrassment which you will never forget

a club in Nottingham where i occasionally dj-ed had a sticker behind the decks which read 'venetian snares is a cunt' i always thought he probably put it there, now i suspect it was probably a disgruntled support dj.

Hip-Hop References that fly over your Head

I noticed after watching the wire, i've understood alot more of the old rap slang which completely went over my head at the time. particularly alot of the drug stuff which is pretty cryptic.

    Dubstep

It's interesting to look browsing through the mu catalog on discogs, they havent really been a label with a house 'sound' but I often associate them with cringey rave pastiche and irritating IDM tantrum music. They seemed preety on it around (2005-07) when they put out some excellent dubstep...
