bleep 'n' bass -- an anachronistic term?

    Yeah, it was definitely "bleep".

    avant-classical massif!

I have got that Bengt Hambreaus one, but it's been about 6 years since i've listened to it. It's definitely more organs doing simple (less timbrely complex) tones - not fruity church organ sounds. Had lots of atmosphere as I remember. Can't find it at the moment.

    grime queries

Fallacy & Fusion's "Groundbreaker" goes really well in a grime set - it just has a little more sparkle than some grime tunes... only a few bpm slower (135?). Fallacy is on the Virus Syndicate album.

    Sturgeon's Law

I think the first use of Amen in rave was a Holy Noise track on Hithouse recs (around 1990). First use in hardcore was in 'We R IE' (91) I think...

    Pitchfork reviews Run the Road

I've been saying that for 3 years: in the same way that many fans of aphex twin and some "breakcore" artists are now frantically searching out old (drill'n'bass inspiring?) jungle and ragga-jungle cut-up amen 12"s that sound like early squarepusher for "big money" on ebay (when they would have...

On the subject of speed in Jungle

well, they did call it clownstep for a few months, until they banned the name on DOA. Wobble will have to do.

On the subject of speed in Jungle

Then again, I find I'd rather play a tune by Twisted Individual than Equinox et al sometimes... especially the more polite side of 'choppage' like the jazzier inperspective stuff (polska + F+N 12"s). Twisted's label 'Up Yours' has some wicked tracks I think. Verging on toytown gabber. The thing...

Black Ops - Jon E Cash

Love the tunes, but Jon E Cash is a shocking MC, he should stick to producing. Haywire was one of my first grime 12"s... and the new one 'Kamikaze' is very good. good to hear some breaks used in a rhythm again.

But then again, I'm probably the only one here who *loved* the Joker label when all else was going techstep/neurofunk.

On the subject of speed in Jungle

I think you will like the new Bizzy B eps... He keeps it deep & dubby (with bass as the foundations), but it's HEAVY & lightfootedly aggressive and very un-produced sounding unlike the Breakage stuff (which I love) - closest comparison would be Equinox I suppose - Ital Lion/Stagger type thing...

On the subject of speed in Jungle

What I DO miss however, is the fearsome intelligence of AWOL-style rollers and tear-out tracks - the likes of old DJ SS, L Double, Shy FX, Pascal so on.... The new Bizzy B stuff?

    Software

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, it's definitely got a "soft" kick drum... no attack - whereas all the aggressive attacky soiunds are in high-mids. I'll probably leave this track as it is and just work on something new when i get the time. cheers.

    Software

I've been using Logic for a while. It seems pretty capable. I also use Peak for editing, cos Logic is awful at that. In the spirit of Nick Gutterbreakz posting his fruityloops efforts, here's my first effort at a grime instrumental using Logic (inspired after listening to DJ Distance....)...

I feel very embarrassed reading it back, and please bring on the criticism, but here is an article i wrote (the only article i ever wrote) back in 2002 for my friend sheikh at absorb: http://www.absorb.org/articles/ukgarage/index.html I didn't really know what I was talking about but I liked...

    GRIME04bCD

Here lies some of the problem. I often hear the "where are the compilations?" complaint or "what is grime?" (from Americans mainly) and it's the East London MC's (and producer's in this case) insistence to be on a Major with all the trappings (attitude from US hip hop?) - a money thing. It...

    Music Licensing Fees

Yes, and also your music can be used for any idents and links or "in-house" programme adverts for free (on any channel - worldwide). Breakbeats and Sleighbells

There is a ragga breakcore version of 'we wish you a merry xmas' which starts off with sleigh bells. There's also Bizzy B's 'Jingle Bell Rock' from 94 white label dub only... (true)
