New York: travel guide/what to check out?

Try Flavorpill for listings in the week you'll be here, they usually highlight a pretty good selection of things to do. Also check the websites of papers/magazines like Time Out NY, Village Voice, New York Press and New York Magazine. See if you can fit in a mix of touristy stuff (big museums...

Bit of a popular one this, so I'm sure most of you have seen it already, but for those who have not: Battle of the Record Covers

Does anyone here use traktor dj studio?

Doesn't Final Scratch run Traktor? If you're looking to use vinyl as well as a laptop, Final Scratch or whatever that Rane/Serrato equivalent is seems to be tailor made.

I'm not eating anything with dried shit in the title.

    Rhythm and Sound

I saw them (well, one of them) DJing at the closing 2006 PS1 Warm Up here in NYC a few weeks ago. I have to say that I was a little disappointed. I'm a huge fan of the R&S output, but the dub and reggae tracks that got played didn't strike me as all that special and really didn't suit the event...

    Technics maintenance

What's wrong with it? Technics are pretty easy to repair yourself provided they didn't suffer some particularly horrible damage. Spare parts are generally easy enough to find as well. Try any online store that sells a lot of DJ equipment.

    Mel and Kim

From the Wikipedia entry on Pete Waterman: How awesome is that. I think I'm going to have to track down a copy of the bio...

The best club in the world?

Fuse in Brussels used to be a personal favorite. Haven't been back there since moving to the US, but fully intend to return sometime. There was a period in the late 90s when the rotating residency was held by Carl Craig, Dave Clark and DJ Hell. Up for it crowd, amazing PA, nice friendly vibe and...

Myspace to sell music online using paypal

They can do that too...but using MySpace makes it easier for them to reach a wide number of listeners who are more likely to be interested in hearing what they do. Equally, it saves listeners having to sift through stuff they have no interest in to find something they like, as the network of...

Myspace to sell music online using paypal

Because it's Murdoch? I can see why people might have that reaction, but he could well be the right person for the job. Evil right-wing piece of shit he may be, but based on what I've read in interviews with him he appears to have an incredibly good grasp of what works in terms of doing business...

    The Touch & Go Thread

Hell yes. I'd pay $35 just to finally get a chance to see Big Black (even if only for a 'couple of songs').

    Mice

I just moved into an apartment in Red Hook (a very strange but kinda cool little out of the way neighbourhood on what used to be the Brooklyn docks) and was dismayed to discover - the morning after I signed the lease - that the place was infested with cockroaches. Really infested. I had to wait...

    V for Vendetta

I think that was actually Frank Millers stupid ass. Seem to remember the characters being in one of the comic books. Will have to dig it up and check.

What's the wierdest fiction book you've ever read?

Definitely. Although I always found The Third Policeman to be just that little bit odder. I've always wondered what people who haven't spent time in Ireland make of Flann O'Brien. His particular strain of surreal / absurd / gently mocking humour resonates of late night drunken conversations in...

Trance/Progressive House -- breaking news, slander, lies, etc...

Shit, I guess he *is* a real guy. 'Theodore Dalrymple' seemingly is a pen name though... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Dalrymple

Trance/Progressive House -- breaking news, slander, lies, etc...

Depressing enough that article, particularly towards the end. I can't help but feel like 'Theodore Dalrymple' is a charicature of a neo-Victorian misanthrope though. Even the name seems contrived.

DJs that really earn their money

I dunno what they're like these days cause it's been years since I've seen them, but I always felt like I got my moneys worth when seeing Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May or Andy Weatherall circa 1994 - 1997. Carl Craig could sometimes play a duff set, but...

A cloth or rag used to wipe your ass. Interchangeable with bumbaclaat I believe (although it may not have the same effect on vampires).
