Were they the ones doing the upstairs room at the last generator? If so that's a terrific rig. Not as good as the one I heard last wekend though, although they're mates so I'm biased :).
Just read Blackdown's piece on funky and really enjoyed it. The way it came across to me was that there's a very definite sense that London's post-UKG elite are pulling away from Dubstep, and not thinking of it as 'their' music any more. Comments about the current dubstep scene in the piece...
I was thinking something similar yesterday. Led Zep are profoundly and very consciously anti-pop in a way that Sabbath and the Who aren't - Sabbath had thier cartoonishness (cf. Ironman) and Pete Townsend never quite lost his pop art sense of juxtaposition even when the Who were at thier...
LA Blues, mate. LA Blues...
See, I don't think Zep had anything like the amount of raw swing to them that the Stooges had. John Bonham rocks without a doubt, but the other three always have this undercurrent of virtuosity running through what they do. In Zep, one of the musicians always doing...
The Stooges maybe but Sabbath have sold shedloads of records. Their 70s sales in the US weren't far behind Zeps.
And I disagree about twiddly. Jimmy Page is constantly itching to get his solo on, you can hear it in his playing. Even their most immediate albums have passages of tedious twiddling...
Or The Who. I freakin' love The Who. Who's Next is like Led Zep with less virtuosity, more synths* and a sense of humour.
*actually not a synth, but you take my point...
Compared to the Stooges, Black Sabbath or Funkadelic... ain't nothing special goin' on here IMO.
Alright so John Bonham is a great drummer, and all thier records have very sample-able chunks of him pounding away. But the band as a whole are just *meh*.
I read something recently where Bobby...
The pair of M35x carts turned up on Friday and I gave them a good running in over the weekend, must have done about 12 hours of mixing all told.
And they are good - nice flat tonal response and hold a groove well. A good option for deejays who don't do loads of scratching. Once I'd set them up...
Hi everyone, I finished off the latest lot of Junction Box tracks yesterday and I just uploaded 'em to the Junction Box myspace page.
Here's the 4-1-1...
Hope you all enjoy :)
I've just ordered a pair of M-35X cartridges which should be here tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to give 'em a good thrashing over the weekend and report back here on Monday.
I realised while sorting through my stuff here that I've still got a Goldring 1006 cartridge that's missing it's...
Hmm... doesn't sound too good. Although not many of my records are warped really. And you can normally tweak this characteristic by wedging little bits of card between the top of the cart and the headshell when you screw it on.
Might go for the Shure 35s actually cos I don't need the...
I lost one of my venerable Stanton 500s when i moved house recently and since the other one is about 15 years old I'm gonna drop for a pair of new ones. So what's good right now in the world of DJ cartridges?
I don't do loads of cutting and scratching - but I do play lots of disco and electro...
I've got some mates who are into urban exploration, they all went to the catacombs last year and had a whale of a time.
I always meant to go with them when they used to hit London targets, but it involved a lot of early morning starts and my bed was always a bit too comfy...
