    UK Cup Clash

mighty crown were wicked right from the first round - great dubs and really confident mcing. they won the crowd over straight away with tanya stephens 'what a day' and by the final round they were winning every time in the dub for dub. the uk sound immortal got to the final with them, tho bass...

it's all over 1xtra / radio 1 but not out on 7 or on pirates yet... greensleeves riddim album soon come. apparently riko got given the instrumental - seems like a good move by south rakkas or greensleeves if they gave it to him.

Rastafarianism, Dancehall & Intellectual Property Rights

this culture of day labouring still seems to exist in the contemporary dancehall world. if you want a big name artist to voice your riddim, you pay something like a $2000 one off fee for them to do a voicing. only if the riddim, or their cut in particular, then goes on to be a big hit will you...

anyone into trying to sort out a one-off reggae/ragga night with film screenings?

yeah we do a monthly at rhythm factory and i think they would be up for it, space in their diary allowing... i still like cherry jam though as it's small. and fairly comfortable for watching films. loving the 80s mix by the way paul. it's big! some real gems on there and sweetly mixed too...

anyone into trying to sort out a one-off reggae/ragga night with film screenings?

sounds like a plan to me...an hour's film screening and then a few hours of music would make for a nice evening. my vote for films to show would go to 'babylon' - would love to see it on a big screen. one place that springs to mind would be cherry jam - i've been to film screening / music...

    BBC on reggaeton

like a lot of caribbean culture its roots seem to be in migration. from jamaica to panama, establishing the connection between the two cultures which bore fruit in the late 80s / early 90s when latin mcs started versioning jamaican riddims. and from puerto rico to new york, establishing hip hop...

UK Hip Hop - Who rates it?

a lot of uk hip hop is let down my unimaginative production and doesn't go down well in clubs (except the hard core uk hip hop ones obviously) as a result. some recent exceptions - ty/roots manuva - oh you want more refix yungun - dancing shoes / nico suave estelle / joni rewind - uptown top...

Exclusive dancehall set from the bug and warrior queen

yeah he won't really be playing any 'bug' stuff, more new bashment, ragga, reggae, bit of hip hop and so on. it's a dancehall / caribbean music night not electronica / hardcore (a lot of the people who came last time would probably run screaming from a 'bug' set). his set should be a really good...

    The Curse of "White Reggae"

like stelfox says the rasta schtick is kind of obligatory and perhaps even more so for someone like gentleman who is striving for acceptance in jamaica as well as trying to please a white german audience whose intense identification with jamaican culture and language can, admittedly, seem a bit...

    my favourite new reggae artist

i think it´s been around for almost a year in JA but only really hit big in the summer. unusual lyrical complexity and a nuanced view of female sexuality, which are not all that common in new roots or jamaican music in general...it seems to present female desire (both sexual and material) as a...
