Name me one uk urban album eligible for this year's award that you seriously think isn't below the admittedly turgid level of most Mercury nominees.

That's still true now. I hate playing to an uninitiated crowd, they very rarely respond other than to ask for "something you can dance to". It just takes people time to "get" it.
The great bit was that he claimed that he was fine to drive, and the only reason he got a cab home was because the police accidentally immobilised his car.
