    the wire

I like a lot of Fisher's writing, but I think on the formal level he's got it badly wrong with Portishead - but again as Noel's quote above makes clear, this is more of a personal opinion of his than some misguided dismissal of the artists' intentions. And while we're quoting: Whatever "one...

    Portishead 3rd

This is from their email news: Should be good; the album is a real grower. It's not quite the radical departure it seems to be on first listen, after you get over the initial OMG! Silver Apples/psych rock/industrial-drums-of-doom surprise. It develops that United States of America-esque Half...

    Undeserved remakes

At least Haneke is remaking his own Funny Games, and insisted that Watts star, being his favourite female actor, so it has a chance of being valid. Watts is also starring in an upcoming The Birds remake (sounds much more dubious), having also starred in the dire The Ring remake... remake...

    Melodyne Direct Note Access

WOOOOOOOOW - did you see that at around 7.50, he just replays the chords of the guitar loop at will from the keyboard, and then the Chet Baker - this is messing with the fabric of the space-time continuum, going back in time to change the original recording in the past... But... one of the...

    Dubstep

It's a great video! I love how the squid turns to have the motor/gyroscope thingie, and then the pan pots sticking out of it, it's this wierd propulsive graceful-but-awkward, organic-but-machinic alien-but-familiar thing... like dubstep

    Vampire *fucking* Weekend

Music journo from Hot Press (Ireland's NME) on the radio the other day: "apparently they hate being compared to Paul Simon, but you can't deny the influence really, can you?". Apparently he'd never heard, or heard of, high life, or assumed that Paul Simon invented it or something...

    tenori-on

Yeah, lots of trancey sounds from the Kaoscillator, but a lot more besides - there's a whole album produced and performed entirely on it here. It apparently costs only $200, about a grand less than the Tenori-On, which seems to sound mainly like early Black Dog! Who needs laptops, synths...
