This thread made me remember when I first heard I Luv U; not having much beyond the obvious Grime/Garage Rap knowledge at the time it struck me as quite DHR sounding. Still does a little bit I think…

they've remade assault on precint 13

Well this is true, but at least in the cited instance they (Carpenter?) tweaked the title; I mean it’s easier to distinguish The Thing From Another World and The Thing in your head and on the video store shelf. it’s not building on top of the old, so much as beside… In relation to the thread...

they've remade assault on precint 13

and thinking on, surely to some extent the existence of codified genres is works against the need for a specific remake, everyone has access to the important/fun/relevant bits for their own movies (stories, whatever...) Cops In Trouble are Cops In Trouble...

they've remade assault on precint 13

Exactly. Why remake Night Of The Living Dead when you can just steal what you need (the Living Dead, Dim lighting) and make another movie instead. It'll probably suck, but you won't have corrupted the feel or memories of the earlier film to anything like the same extent. Why remake Rio Bravo...

they've remade assault on precint 13

a friend who'd never seen the original went to see it after i begged and begged for him to catch the real one on tape. (How he'd never manage to catch it before i'll never know! I made him watch They Live...) How can a remake be anything but terrible? I never understand why they remake films...

    Walkman chic

That is amazing! Fantastic!! I was big, big into my tape Walkmen up until about this time last year, when i finally managed to kill a bargain basement mid-range Sony one. I don't know what it is, but i can just destroy these things without even trying; hence i'm shit scared of getting an Ipod...

    sex noises and electronic music

there's a strong vein of scatology running through all electronic stuff, especially post-AFX/rephlex/warp/ stuff. even if it's just vulgar titles. I think it's something to do with having a neutral, inorganic set of sounds and interfaces leaving people with the security to do this stuff - just...

    A Scanner Darkly

kind of off topic but... Quote: Phillip K. Dick, the late schizoid Sci-Fi author and Ira (The Unicorn) Einhorn, sixties radical activist turned seventies New Age networker cum fugitive axe murderer, began a correspondence in early February of '78 centered around Dick's firmly held (on shaky...

    A Scanner Darkly

Johnny Mnemonic was/is a William Gibson short story. I really can't see anybody - let alone Linklater - turning ASD into something Matrix-esque... but then *they* turned We Can Remember It For You Wholesale into Total Recall....
