yeah but elijah you have 4 shows a month, often more. my feeling is if you did four 100% upfront shows a month the quality would drop. this debate started when i said our shows were focused on upfront not repeating established tunes but then we have only 1 show a month, makes it easier.

These EvianChrist tracks are pretty moving in a Burial-esque way. Hardcore trap & juke purists might not like them but they work as an interesting parallel for me.

well, we actually have spent quite a lot of time working on coordinating our structure and flow for the show, it's actually very important to me. if we threw random tracks on and edge rolled everything in a very disjointed way it would annoy me a lot. instead we try and curate from ~600 or so...

Obviously one of the core aims of DJing is to create an aesthetic, that's exactly what I'm saying, it's just that from a personal perspective if a DJ's aesthetic is to give me records I already mostly know or sound like ones I already have, mixing them together isn't a powerful enough...

I'll be honest, it is the point of it in most cases for me. I get sent loads of "hey check my mix..." emails with a mix of the top 10 released tunes from the previous six months in them and I never download them, I'm looking for the new. Limited viewpoint? Perhaps... I guess I'm aware of the...

this. it's a very subjective viewpoint but one i felt strongly this year in the spheres i operate in, like there was a switch from DJs, committed to upfront dubplate culture, pushing this ever expanding wave of what was possible by blowing your head off with music you didn't know you wanted yet...

well, i think it did a pretty good job of pointing out what an 80s rock record it was (if you ignore the trance bits...), which was why the album didnt do it for me. (ps i dont like trance either). i liked rustie's early work so chose not to write about the album.

pretty on the money piece by simon... don't think i realised quite how into rock rustie was. only reinforces why i'm not feeling the album. anyone else notice the parallel between the digital musician's source overload he seems to warn against and the sheer number of musical reference he's able...
