I know everyone hates Secret Life, but I disagree. I think it's a blindingly surreal tronik-disco track... and I play it on my yacht all the time! ;)

Yeah sorry. After thinking about it, that tune might not fit the bill.

    Specials vs Fun Boy Three

Yeah I hadn't listened to In The Studio in awhile... thought I remembered it being a lot darker at the time.

Yeah Hardrive! This is a classic. Those old Strictly Rhythm 12"s are essential.

Yeah good call. Also the one from Cat People off the same album, and then Stay and Secret Life of Arabia. Yeah for sure. Michael McDonald is cool.

    Hippie nonsense

Yeah the Elevators are amazing. The guitar sound on those records is sublime, that shimmering dreamlike quality. Also they seem to have a fair bit of Morricone vibes on some tracks (Rose And The Thorn for example). All three of those albums are stone cold classics. And Till Then is the best...

Yeah I understand. It does seem pretty labyrinthine so far... but that's what makes it so fun! Yeah from what I've seen, 7"s are where it's at with the Turkish stuff. There's supposed to be a Stones Throw mix floating around on the net, but no luck so far for me. I actually like what...

Hey thanks. BTW I was gonna mention, but realized my post was too long already, that I could see ardkore going down well in a lot of bars out here (where the nuum isn't common knowledge obv) given the right circumstances. Say for example something like Trip II The Moon or Hurt You So...

Zhao - Yeah I'm actually very intrigued by a lot of the music you've brought up in here. I'm well into a lot of the afrobeat/juju/ethio music, not an expert by ANY means whatsoever, but really into the stuff I can get my hands on. I had no idea about Turkish and Egyptian Funk though. I've...

Apologies for what I just realized is sort of a long post! I think I can see where Zhao is coming from in the sense of creating this musical journey through a dj mix. This is something I try when building a set, and I presume many of the other djs here do this as well. It's one of the...

It's never a mistake to bring this record along: "Don't Leave Me This Way" is unstoppable.

No way! I was just looking up Mbilia Bel earlier today. Great, great stuff... Steely Dan - Absolutely untouchable: Deacon Blues, Glamour Profession, The Fez (hell, the entirety of the Royal Scam lp for that matter)... top respect for this stuff, grew up loving it... not even a hint of irony...

    Specials vs Fun Boy Three

Yeah that is confusing. I didn't realize it was such an on and off thing. If I didn't feel qualified to vote before, consider me doubly intimidated now! It reminds me of the whole BAD/BAD II/Big Audio/BAD thing. Edit: Does that mean Gangsters and TMTY count as AKA in this poll?

    Specials vs Fun Boy Three

Just checked out some clips of Waiting. I was expecting more of a Beat vs. General Public level change in sound from the Specials, but it seems like a continuation of the Special AKA project. Is this the case or am I way off? I guess I was expecting it to sound more like Our Lips Are Sealed...

    Specials vs Fun Boy Three

If memory serves, I think it was Too Much Too Young and then they changed it back. Didn't the temporary name change have something to do with the controversy surrounding that song?

    Specials vs Fun Boy Three

To be honest, I've only got the Specials stuff and a few Two-Tone release, so I didn't vote. Just perfect summer records, aren't they? Aside from Ghost Town, Gangsters and Rudy, Blank Expression and Too Much Too Young are the tunes for me, so the Specials proper win out over AKA for me...

    Dancehall Albums

Ah nice selections DannyL. Thanks for breaking it down. I checked out some clips for these. The Tiger one is dead on, amazing stuff. This one is exactly what I looking for with the whole "great dancehall album" thing, and it's got such a great cover to top it all off! As does the M-16...

Right on Prescription is great! What about Chez Damier? You've got Closer of course, but also those gems he put out on KMS would go down a treat. I could see Octave One slipping in really well too. There's a compulsive funkiness to their music that's perfect for a crammed, smaller venue.

    Dancehall Albums

Realizing that dancehall is at it's core really a 12" ting, lately I've been wondering what some of the stone cold classic albums coming from the various eras of dancehall might be. Those records where you get nothing but one killer tune after another. I was curious as to what full-lengths the...

    Fellow Drexciyans!

Yes! Totally majestic. Glad to see some Drexciya love on the boards! Absolutely love Drexciya. They achieved a totally unique sound... I can't even really imagine which synths they used. And yes, the aesthetic vision and surrounding mythology certainly doesn't hurt either. craner - I...
