    Grant McLennan RIP

Only one thing to do - listen to "Cattle And Cane", and remember.

rhythm and sound, burial mix, wackies cheap(ish)

Does anyone know if the reissue of the Basic Channel and Maurizio cds means that they will also be reissuing the Chain Reaction cds at some point? Would love to pick up the Porter Ricks and Monolake discs in particular.

scratch-and-sniff "what hi-fi have you got" thread.

Arcam CD72 cd player NAD C350 amp Acoustic Energy Aegis 3 (? the bookshelf entry in the line, whichever that was) speakers and my once well-loved Rega P3 w/ Rega Superbias cartridge and a malfunctioning NAD pre-amp more or less gathering dust/acting as a holding place for cds (how the mighty...

    Desert Island Discs? Not quite...

If you're being completely honest, too, I bet your lists will skew towards the few albums you owned when you first became really obsessed with music. I doubt there are any albums I've listened to as much as Aqualung and Morrison Hotel which I used to have on one C-90 which I would flip over and...

what are some good resources for world music?

Sterns' website is worth checking for African sounds - lots of sound samples (often a minute or so from every track on a given cd) If you want something more comprehensive and discursive, I don't think anyone's come close to the Rough Guide to World Music but the website is pretty useless...

    Ambient suggestions

both of those recommendations seconded but I wouldn't necessarily recommend everything by the Necks for ambience - Hanging Gardens and The Boys are pretty intrusive but Aquatic, Aether, Drive By and most of the live stuff would work for me. given the album depicted in your avatar, arcaNa, I'm...

Books you've read recently and would unreservedly recommend

I assume that you're using the phrase "offensively north London" metaphorically since the last ten winners include two Canadians, two Australians and one apiece from South Africa, India and Ireland. If you're implying that there's a certain circumscribed notion of "literary" fiction that's...

Books you've read recently and would unreservedly recommend

Another Booker Nominee...A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry. In a sense, the loss of innocence experienced by young soldiers in a brutal war is a soft touch in terms of getting an emotional response from the reader, but I was moved by the section where the protagonist, Willie Dunne, returns...

    Why Dissensus?

'Powerpoint? Rubbish? It's just a tool isn't it?' You might want to keep it simple for this guy, Mark - when the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem is a nail. For marketing purposes, all applications are defined by their capabilities, which is why features proliferate to the point...
