Was thinking just that this morninng when listening to Samiyam. Its really quite similar to what Prefuse73 or the Spezial Materials bunch were doing (and might still be for all i know), same fucked aesthetic but with more groove and less glitches.

Downloaded his redbull mix but theres not an awful lot on it - to my ears - that matches the track 9 has been playing. Alot of this Dilla inspired stuff seems to get really hectic in a way i don't find that appealing, the tunes with rythmic space are fantastic though. Is there anything anyone...

I think you could scrutinise a good rhythm for weeks and there would remain an awful lot of crucial elemnts which are simply unquantifiable in any kind of scientific manner - things like accents, acute pitchbends, the tone and pitch of the various hits, blah blah blah.. I've been trying to get...

Isn't the problem more about lack rythmn than lack of garage influence or signifiers? Groove or swing isn't exclusive to garage, Loefah's lastest tracks seem to have more in common with hip-hop than garage rythmically but that doesn't mean they plod, at least not to my ears.

    Dubstep

I'd say that hits the nail on the head. When I was introduced to the music it was fresh to the majority of people, spoken about with excitement by the kind of active searchers who you listen to when they think they've found something new. I hate hipster (or whatever the correct term is) politics...

Thanks for listening Barry :) "directions" is hopefully forthcoming on 12" through Gracenote Recs this autumn or winter. I'm still not writing stuff thats as focused as i'd like it to be, too much of my time is taken up by having to work around failing technology. That said, if anyone would...
