Elemental's new album definitely deserves a mention. Frankly, I'd give it the edge over the 2562 LP, as they both seem to be covering somewhat similar terrain (broken, "unbalanced" rhythmic patterns and plenty of synthy fun(k)).
as juke goes across the atlantic, let me be the first to bestow a title on this nascent genre: jUKe

pretty solid mix!
You're right, but I say best if only because all five tracks are gold. 2562's tectonic release, Scuba's highly underrated Bleach/Volt, Shed's recent STP EP, Monolake- Atlas/Titan, the Joy Orbison EP, Sigha's 2nd Hotflush outing, and even though this isn't exhaustive, Shortstuff's Rustling EP...
new Scuba ep is great, although it doesn't beat bleach/volt which is possibly my single of the year. Is that a Brandy vocal sample I smell on "Symbiosis"?
thanks for the info, Gavin.
I realized today that a few tunes off "Where Were You in 92'?" could probably sit nicely, if a bit awkwardly, next to Chicago juke. Notably, "pillz", "hench", & "G.T.I"
Also, I should note: I go to school in South Side Chicago (The University of Chicago to be precise), so these guys probably don't live too far from me. I'll see what I can find.
Dave Huismans has been my favorite artist this year (maybe next to Shed), but there's no way Unbalance compares to Aerial. There's nothing on unbalance that beats "Techno Dread"-- "Who Are you Fooling" comes close but no cigar. Go back and listen to "Kameleon" or "Moog Dub" and try and convince...
Demdike Stare- Symbiosis for (beatless) album of the year. Really wish they had given us stronger kicks in at least a few tunes. Hoping that someone will remix "Regressor" (which already sounds great)?
