    House 09!

Levon is the one for me at the moment. Can't get enough of his tracks. His RA podcast is pretty awesome: http://www.aimnat.net/2009/06/levon-vincent-ra-podcast-158.html All the other Underground Quality affiliated artists are fantastic too. Jus-Ed, DJ Qu, Black Jazz Consortium...

    Dalston/Hackney/Stokey news

I thoroughly enjoyed this but was dismayed to discover that Dalston slice actually exists and isn't the invention of a comic genius.

Cooking tips and wonderful flavour combinations

Chicory and Fennel are both great braised in a variety of different ways. Fennel also works well roasted, its brilliant add to you standard selection of roast veggies, great for roasting alongside meat (slow roast belly pork with fennel = WIN). A good recipe for a simple pasta sauce is just...

    congotronics

Yeah. I think the shortness of the songs comes from the fact that they're actually made up of several different bands with people from different ethnic groups so they play in songs from different cultures and in different musical styles, rather than the singularly focused endless jamming of...

    congotronics

I went to this. Kasai were great. It always annoys me that bands like this always get put on at 'serious' art venues like the Barbican - it makes it very difficult to dance and, you know, have fun. But that was kinda overcome last night, lots of people got on stage to dance with the band and...

    Soundhack/ MMM

That looks awesome. I've wanted to see Soundstream for ages and Prosumer is an excellent DJ.

    Bedtime music

I almost always go to sleep with music on. Perennial favourites include Basinski's Disintegration Loops, GAS and Grouper. I also like some minamalist stuff (Terry Riley, Gavin Bryars et cetera). I think the few times i've felt completely immersed in music has been in that wonderful half awake...

1/2 of basic channel and sleeparchive at plastic people!

I wasn't there but it was probably DJ Pete/Substance. He did a pretty boring RA podcast with lots of older dubstep tracks.

    new Burial 12 with... fourtet?!

I’m not so keen on this. Sounds like they met halfway and diluted both their sounds. I thought Four Tet's recentisg EP (Ringer?) was really good though. It had more of a spacey kraut feel than his excessively polite folktronica records. His free jazz stuff with Steve Reid is pretty good too.

    Funky/London/UK House

Not explicitly funky related but Culoe de Song from SA had done a Resident Advisor podcast: http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=146

    Funky/London/UK House

I went to see Prosumer DJ at Fabric on Saturday and he played Lil Silva's Pulse X Remix. He mixed it in with Lil' Louis's Original Video Clash ( ) it sounded amazing and really brought out the similarity with some of the rougher sounding early Chicago beats. It's really interesting to see...

    Trim - Soulfood

I'm not really a fan. Only two or three good tracks, mostly filler with recycled bars and poor beats. Definitely the worst yet. Also it sound really badly mixed

    Funky/London/UK House

He's just done the new Fabric comp. All his own tracks and lovely stuff it is too.

    Funky/London/UK House

They all sound like 'tributes' to this Afefe Iku track from last year: Congo/London cross pollination anyone?

    The meaning of "funky house"

Sure, a lot of the Strictly Rhythm/'Ibiza' style house is exceedingly mediocre dancefloor filler. But I think the problem is that there is a reasonable amount of good music in that scene that has been written off by association. If you’d asked me six months ago what I thought about this...
