    Demdike Stare

there's more and more of this kinda stuff about now -- industrial/goth/darkwave influences over a contemporary bass template. demdike, raime, chasing voices, ekoplekz, recent mordant music, antonym, mick harris and other recent non-techno releases on downwards techno is also baring these...

    Who is Arcade Fire??!!?

i'm no arcade fire fan but after one page of that blog i started feeling sorry that the internet was ever invented. people are annoying and stupid and there's nothing worse than said people expressing their opinions in a "provocative" manner on twitter/facebook

    Shoegaze

i wish slowdive had done more stuff like this http://www.discogs.com/Slowdive-5-EP/master/9485 laser-precise ambient techno dub w/ beautiful gazey synth and guitar textures i can't think of many guitar bands who were able to so effortlessly assimilate into techno

    My Techno

"They have far better taste than Phillip Sherburne." maybe so, but unlike p sherburne, the ssg boys can't write for shit

    Actress / Nail the cross

i find with every tape saturation plug-in i've used that after a while it just starts sounding like distortion (which is what they are essentially), but nebula does sound interesting i guess. at this point i think i'd rather spend 80 euros on a used yamaha multi track or something a lot of...

    Cassettes

^this. a good quality cassette tape will sound better than an mp3 every day of the week i've been enjoying the touch-affiliated tapeworm label, some really cool conceptual stuff like stefan goldmann's tape that makes use of the auto-reverse function to create an endless loop that the listener...

    Actress / Nail the cross

yeah, especially those early ensoniq hybrid synths. analog vcf/vca with gritty 8 bit waves, so sick

    Actress / Nail the cross

nah i agree with you 100%, except for this: "So did the first digital synths, the programming was so simplistic" tell that to the dx7, dude

    Actress / Nail the cross

"whereas digital lo-fi tends to be abrasive and purely unpleasant." this isn't always true though, people love to talk about the "warmth" of classic 90s ny rap for instance and attribute it to the low sample rate of old samplers, even going further to celebrate certain DACs and dithering rates...

    Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson

he was a joint partner in hipgnosis; just a footnote compared to what he achieved with coil. one of the great geniuses of our times. rip uncle sleaze

    Lost Glitch Classics

you probably know these already, but here's a few of my favourites that don't often get talked about: kid606 - gq on the eq (beautiful ensoniq asr-10 loop modulation goodness) takagi masakatsu - pia tetsu inoue - psycho-acoustic

    Sculpture/Tapebox

i did enjoy what the other guy was doing with tape, but the beats didn't work for me and became a bit intrusive. also suffered from too-much-electribe-delay-effect-syndrome. the ambient parts were best

    Sculpture/Tapebox

i played a gig with them last friday. the music was pretty average imo but the visuals were a revelation. very psychedelic without pandering to cliched psychedelic tropes
