    More MIA

Yeah, lets reduce those who disagree into a faceless cadre of extremists. Who's our team strategy advisor here? Could it be Karl Rove?

    More MIA

What amazes me is just how hysterical the anti MIA front is. The sheer outrage so many people here are voicing seems totally out of proportion. Like, whats the problem, really? MIA's popularity can only increase that of baile, dancehall, grime whatever. She certainly isn't taking away from...

    Oooh you handsome devil!

Ian Brown was always fucking gorgeous - a big part of his appeal (aside from having my favourite singing voice ever). Adds something to the music, definitely, when the singer is attractive/unique/wonderful looking. Yeah, I really do respond well to male beauty, despite being totally hetero. No...

    Soul Jazz Records

Wow, those look excellent. Not to mention the superb "Soul Gospel" compilation just released. Soul Jazz are killing it on a daily basis out there. They dominate the reissue/survey/comp landscape like a towering colossus.

    Neubauten tonight

'Mobile' is superb, a little more old-school than the last two or three, but I also like 'Silence' a lot and I still adore 'Ende Neu'. So there. Come on, someone else here must have liked "Tabula' and 'Ende'? I'm not alone here am I?

    Yer mum

This should make for an interesting discussion: What of your music does your mum like/tolerate? Mine is kinda unpredictable - when we're in the car, she loves anything by the DFA except 'Beat Connection' and 'Losing my Edge', she especially likes the Black Leotard Front record. She can't...

    Music Videos

There are a million examples of where a video with strong musician involvement leads to an amazing combination, that adds to the original music. Some standouts off the top of my head (excuse the extraordinarily uncool bands, this is what used to show on our videos programme) include Massive...

What is Dissensus' favourite Metallica LP?

I think about $70, which is a fair bit. I'm just worried they'll be all kinda boring and washed up, rather dirty and thrashy and old school. I'm umming and ahhing on this one...

    just plain depressing

So depressing I can't listen to it really - Section 25 - Always Now Plastikman is pretty full on, that last album. Dark dark dark. Early Nick Cave is some fabulously depressing stuff, especially Her to Eternity and The Firstborn is Dead, Mudhoney's "If I Think" is a great heroin tribute song...

Vast Aire- Look Mom No Hands

I liked the Nasa track, but I much preferred Vordul's solo, I got the feeling after that Vordul was the emotional heart of the duo, while Vast had the ebullient charisma. Together (and with El-P) definitely better than the sum of parts!

What is Dissensus' favourite Metallica LP?

Best Metallica album? I'm definitely going with any of the first three Megadeth records there. They're playing live here in 10 days or so, reckon its worth it?

    Walkman chic

John Eden: Damn that thing is hot. I'm feeling all flushed. I just got my Shuffle today and now I feel like a tosser.

    Pop Implosions

and as for pop implosions, what about Prince? maybe more of a 'pop fizzle'... Bobby Brown had a fairly hard fall as well - see Whitney Houston.

    Pop Implosions

oh come on, i agree most is shit but 'Madagascar' could arguably be his best song ever. make that your next download.

Have you ever heard something so good it made you cry?

How could I forget? Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box and Where Did You Sleep Last Night Those two utterly decimate me... Probably more for their impact on me as a small tacker than anything...

Have you ever heard something so good it made you cry?

Joy Division - In A Lonely Place (unreleased demo from Heart and Soul Box) When he kicks in with "how I wish you were heeere, with me now..." its an absolute killer. Antony and the Johnsons - I Fell In Love With A Dead Boy and Cripple And The Starfish Coil - most of Musick To Play In The...
