lol! how did i get embroiled in this thread? actually what i said was that i would soldier on until the blog's 5th birthday in august and then knock it on the head. or maybe i won't. my mood changes daily. the thing is i do feel pretty much 'all blogged-out', but at the same time i'm aware of...

    Favourite (official) Kraftwerk Studio Album

My understanding is that he and Flur chose to leave because they were bored. This was during the period when there was a lot of laborious work involving transfering the old analogue sounds/tapes into digital for The Mix project, which was more an engineer's job than a musician's. Flur left first...

the results are starting to get interesting. i figured most votes would be clustered around TEE/Man Machine/Computer World, but assumed i'd be in the minority with radio-Activity - how wrong! surprised that autobahn hasn't had a single vote yet - it's a lovely record! no surprises on...

hmmmm..and this one's pretty beautiful too. check wolfgang's prototype drum pads, wires spilling out all over the place.

it was very stimulating. apologies for not giving you some individual attention. but only 10 votes from over 100 views? i thought this was one poll where everyone could join in. or am i over-estimating kraftwerk's stature here...?

yes, i think you distilled its essence there!

    Favourite (official) Kraftwerk Studio Album

maybe not their best album by any stretch ...in fact prob very flawed, but I have a soft spot for radio-activity...maybe cos it was my first...love the antiquated sound...mellotron/moog/vocoder, etc...can't imagine how it could ever have sounded futuristic. i like all the short sketchy tracks...

    Dazzle Ships

Not sure if Dazzle Ships was too weird...more like the record-buying public lost their appetite for more experimental pop after '82. whatever, it's a shame OMD lost their nerve after that.

    Bleep!

that mix i did deliberately focussed on more obscure b-side material, so i doubt any of those specific tracks would make Simon's list, though several of the artists might do. incidently, i recently blogged a 'woebot-style' post on the great Robert Gordon. Quite a few classic bleep records in...

new york end of 60's music scene

yeah i love paris 1919, but the 60s stuff is a million miles away from that, more an extension of his drone-theory period with La Monte Young in the Dream Syndicate. here's the series... http://www.discogs.com/release/360719 http://www.discogs.com/release/360253...

Woebot has more to say... http://www.woebot.com/2007/11/net_radio_rant.html i met her once when she came down to subloaded, and seemed very nice, but tbh i never listen to her show cos she just does my head in.

new york end of 60's music scene

yeah the silver apples were amazing...even Danny's drumming was advanced... have you heard John Cales' late 60s demos? they got released on a series of three cds by table of the elements a few years back. awesome shit...makes the velvets sound cheesy, esp. the track where he 'plays' the pause...

    Burial "Untrue"

yeah that's how i started out too, Marc. of course it had a traumatic effect on the sound quality, but actually my earliest tapes sound really fucking haunting to me now...all that murky shit lost in the tape-hiss fog... haven't actually heard the album yet (struck off the hyperdub mailing list...
