Good (and bad) Biographies of Writers

Wordsworth did a lot of interesting stuff in the first half of his life, but it's sort of all there in the prelude so I'm not too interested in a modern biography

Good (and bad) Biographies of Writers

Modern writers look like proper fannies in comparison. Some of these old guys it's mind blowing the adventures they got up to.

Good (and bad) Biographies of Writers

Most those 17th century guys have fucking mental life stories, I like to read them on wikipedia. Garcilaso, San Juan, Philip Sidney etc etc

Good (and bad) Biographies of Writers

I'd like to read a good one of someone who lived a properly exciting life like Cervantes or Melville, sailing the seven seas, going to war, getting thrown into prison and being captured by pirates and stuff.

Good (and bad) Biographies of Writers

I've only read the Ellman Yeats one, (on a rec from @Corpsey ) which was brilliant, and a Camus one which I read so long ago I can't remember anything, but i enjoyed it at the time. The Ellman Yeats was great cos he had unprecedented access to his private papers and is just a really good...

    The Waste Land (1922)

I don't really read biographies, but I just read the Ellman one of Yeats and enjoyed it, it did enhance my understanding of the poetry itself, which is what I wanted out of it above all.

    The Waste Land (1922)

Any good? I ordered it last night on a whim, then i read that he wasn't allowed to actually quote any of the poetry, so I'm wondering how he's gonna get around that and still produce a good book.

    The Waste Land (1922)

I've been reading the waste land again over this weekend, paying more attention to the notes and allusions. It's remarkable how re-readable it is, you get something new out of it each time. This time the Death By Water section really struck me as especially beautiful, calm and measured, the...
