I would never programme patterns as too hung up on tone, or basically putting effects on it, as I always thought rhythm could come later, so I end up with a 4 bar loop for drums.
An hour into The Straight Story. I said this was the film I wanted to watch again the most as it's the one I knew the least. It's pretty sleepy in tone and pace, which is why I think I struggled with it before, but noticing all the dark humour more this time.
I think it's relative. You could do a psychological 'experiment' where most people have beards, the odd one without a beard would be perceived as less desirable. That said, I remember on a film forum an American watched Bill Forsyth film and commented that they were all ugly.
I suppose, to almost answer in reverse order, it is down to the Noir tradition.
I've just got out of watching loads of old Noir on YouTube, then I watched Chinatown and just thought it was a masterpiece. The Long Goodbye is a very mellow film, but Elliot Gould is wonderful.
I don't want to...
Most pizzas I have are Chicago style. I've never knowingly had a New York one but it looks familiar, and would have been more fitting as I ate it watching the original The Taking of Pelham 123 last night, didn't rate the film that high but loved the Detroit pizza.

Reason for asking, I had a Detroit style pizza last night and forgot how nice they were, when I'd got used to Chicago style.
