Is there anybody who likes jazz?

i may have said this before, but one jazz musician that needs attention is vibraphonist walt dickerson, his 70s output is wonderful and sadly not well known. i would defy anyone to find and not be moved by shades of love and to my son (both in print and available via steeplechase).

Is there anybody who likes jazz?

re: good jazz, i think it was probably equally good to someone in the 40s as to someone in the 70s, but it's reasonable to expect the latter to resonate more with us as we identify with change and take pleasure in progression. re: what is jazz, if you liken jazz to a chair for example one could...

    is music too middle class?

i honestly can't see what is wrong with what i've said. the idea of class exists, it's the subject of the thread, and i've just said that i think it (or race, or any other arbitrary division) is not where (good) music comes from, all the things that make good art are higher than these divisions...

    is music too middle class?

all good music and art comes from a place where class is meaningless. the people who carved the old greek friezes were what we would call lower class, yet the form and beauty of these things is the highest human achievement, the same applies to music. the obsession with class is the least...

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

lots of 'dissensus can make a better list' bravado here but no actual lists, let's see the fucking lists.

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

not to worry, i only made the list to jog my memory, i doubt anyone will read it anyway. in any case i'm not against a uk/nuum centric list, go for it.

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

benny, i'm not sure i agree. if zhao and other members of the forum are anything to go by we can do both eskimo and digital love, i don't see why not. i excluded grime type stuff from my list because i thought it wouldn't fit, but i can make it fit, i do this with different things every day...

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

but really, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a dedicated thread for such a list. even i could contribute a few choices.

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

in making my own list i found some overlap with the ilx ones in the listening in social contexts department, which is not my strength. for example, the daft punk discovery tracks are dear to me more as backdrops to social stuff and my sister's fixation rather than as music, although i enjoy the...

ILX's ''110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s" Thread

hi all. these are my (probably questionable) choices. i decided to forget the limit and describe each thing briefly, here we go: 1999 the actor's pedantry - house drexciya - andrean sand dunes — two on the cusp of the 00s, i had to include them as it would be a shame not to. the first is a...

good for him, even if it's temporary. in any case he is very lucid about why he is doing it:

    scelsi's improvisation tapes

goodness, that must be a holy grail for jazzheads. probably locked up in a cave next to the mouton rothschilds! if i remember well there was a similar situation with lost charlie parker recordings, hours of solos or something like that, it must keep some people awake at night.

you need to listen to the walt dickerson records i mentioned in the thread, it's almost not jazz but rather cosmic floating music or something like that, very unique music. i have a love/hate relationship with jazz as my dad played the contrabass and had miles davis' kind of blue on at all...
