GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

I'm not really comparing grime's output to anything else other than grime's previous output. Although though I imagine sales are increasingly never what they used to be, creatively I've been pretty happy with what American hip hop has had to offer this year. A friend of mine assures me dancehall...

So, 2011 was pretty rough for grime, wasn't it?

    Dancehall 2011

Can anyone recommend any bloggers or journalists who remain current with dancehall? It seems like there is virtually no writing about it on the internet in the way that there is for other genres like hip hop, dance music, indie rock, etc.

If you don't wanna whip out the fliff on the big hardcover, you could also always start with Maggie The Mechanic, which I think collects the first five years of L&R chronologically. Just arrived in the post for me yesterday.

    comics

I understand why Watchmen might appear on the syllabus for a literature course, since it is really the only way Universities seem to have found a way to include comics as a serious topic of study (that is, by throwing it in with English Lit programmes), which is a contentious distinction we all...

I'm not really sure how much has changed with them over the last little while. Pretty much nothing has been released since Goblin and Nostalgia, Ultra, so I'm not sure what you're basing that on? Those records, I guess.

Anyone know a good place to buy current rap singles on wav or 320 kbps? What I need is the equivalent of a Boomkat for rap. Does this even exist?

Just checked in here and the order of the day is V-Nasty and Riff Raff? Just to get this straight, when we're talking about Riff Raff we're talking about that should've-been-aborted clown that was on From G's To Gents right? We're talking about this guy right? Just checking, dissensus.

What do I need to know to be a Proper Grown Up?

Being a PGU really just comes down to not doing exactly what you want, when you want, all of the time, and taking at least some sense of pride and nobility in that fact.

I think it also has to do with how apparently nobody who features on the DVD gets paid, so a lot of the bigger names aren't really interested.

Finally the possibilities of a Lord of The Mics 3 clash I could actually give a fuck about.

    The Weeknd

I agree that the fact that he croons all his lyrics and has a somewhat anonymous media presence doesn't draw him as much attention as Tyler, who sort of revels in his controversy. I just don't think that, despite this, he really NEEDS to "answer" for his lyrics. Sure, they are sinister and dark...

    The Weeknd

Well I've read multiple reviews that mention the morally questionable content of his lyrics, but none get too outraged about it because in the context of the whole album he is hardly glorifying the things he's talking about. There is a definite feel across the whole record of emptiness...

Fucked Up aren't nominated this year. Their new album wasn't released in time for this year's nomination. Arcade Fire's The Suburbs is nominated though, which almost seems like a foregone conclusion.
