I think you might need to throw Gaucho in there with Aja. Perhaps the Doobie Brothers Living On The Fault Line as well? That might be more sophisticated funk / yacht crossover, but to my ears it fits. Oh yeah, the first Michael McDonald album as well. If Thats What It Takes. How about any...

http://matrix-yachts.com/edit/images/26.jpg I'm saving up for one of these, they charter for the low low price of 42,000 dollars a week. I'm sure my great grandchildren will enjoy their 3 hour cruise.

Anyone ever give the Jeff Beck album Flash a listen? Its produced by Nile Rodgers and Arthur Baker, and Jan Hammer plays on it. Check for Night After Night, hell the whole album has to be heard to be believed. Such a bizarre combination of rock royalty and dance royalty.

    Negative Energy

If we're talkin bout despair in Hip-Hop, Trae and Z-ro. The American South knows more about hate and rage than I want to learn.

    Guys singing falsetto...

I'm assuming that this thread is for men singing falsetto in a soul or RnB setting here, but the contrarian in me says Rob Halford.

Frankie Knuckles did a brilliant cover of this on DJ International.

    Disco!

And if we're really going to talk about Disco, we need to talk about Philly Soul too. I'm talking Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, McFadden and Whitehead, MFSB, Gamble and Huff, and Teddy Pendergrass. Not to mention LA based but still Philly sounding Barry White and his Love Unlimited...

MMS if you're into rare groove/jazz funk I'm assuming you're familiar with Weather Report? Have you heard any of their bassist's albums? Alphonso Johnson's Moonshadow is steadily becoming a favorite of mine. Its a shame that the PC I use to rip vinyl is currently out of commission. I'm...

Here's one of my favorite proto Italo tracks by way of restitution. Tantra - Hills of Katmandu Very big in early 80s NYC area clubs like the Funhouse.

Yeah, electroclash was hugely indebted to early High NRG like Bobby O or Patrick Cowley. Felix Da Housecat used some pretty large Bobby O samples in his beats for one example. Edit: This one being one of the more obvious. Sorry to derail thread into less organic sounding disco.

There's a lot of Italo thats a direct predecessor to both early House and Techno. Compare something like Charlie's Spacer Woman. To Cybotron. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOBUqCIXXWY Or to Jamie Principle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kup0BdoLzbg I think thats what got people interested in...

    Funky/London/UK House

http://www.afrodesiamp3.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=72 A lot of this is in the 123-125 range, might need to be pitched up a bit.

You're definitely right about Cadenza, I'd think that recent Argenis Brito release on there would fit with Funky pretty well. Other suggestions would be Marco Carola's the Tribe from last year, its not on Cadenza but it fits that sort of vibe perfectly. And I'm really enjoying stuff on...

As has been mentioned grime seems to have been a pivotal influence of halfstep. Wonder, in particular seems to have been influential. What, right?

Except no one in their right mind is ever going to let me near their yacht. I smell poor, I swear. Doesn't matter how much 70% off Perry Ellis I wear I still work in a factory. Check for Alphonso Johnson's Stump on his album Moonshadow. I need to rip it and post it up here.

current trends that will age horribly

Hmm. Mainstream minimal tech-house along the likes of Minilogue, uh yeah definitely. Couldn't agree more. Obviously Nu-Rave as a fashion thing is dead as shit, but I'm not so convinced that bloghouse is going that way so quickly. I know that Electrohouse is dying in Europe, but something...
