Ngoma Afro Asia Sound Mix 1

God, I'm loving the South African tracks. Love the slowed down kwai house beat so much. Thanks Zhao!

What he said, Jesus fucking Christ. All is forgiven, its like Catch 33 never happened.

    Dubstep

I loved his first EP to death and found all the subsequent hype very annoying. It just didn't seem like you could mix it with anything unless you were a very adventurous DJ. Vaccine used Burial's beats in her mixes, but those are incredibly crafted. She did so many takes of this one its a...

    Dubstep

I've read enough of the CCRU and the Hyperstition blog to know that anything Kode 9 attaches his name to, anything on Hyperdub that is, is going to have another layer of theory on top of the music. And I'll agree that some of that stuff is fun. Who knows about the ancient lemur magick round...

    Dubstep

Don't take this the wrong way Gek, but sometimes your posts strike me as a little bit anhedonic. The only people I've met who don't get pleasure out of virtually anything are the ones who used to abuse crystal meth. I loved the first Burial EP, and hated his first album. And Untrue had me...

    Dubstep

I appear to be the only person who likes Grime (or maybe liked Grime) that wishes Jammer would just shut the fuck up and make beats like Hollow Man or the Platoon remix again. This is after seeing him rap at the DMZ vs. Dubwar thing, mind.

Techno for me, thanks. Long as it sounds like your stuff or Emptyset.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

Everybodies talking as if Def Jux peaked with this one. For me there are tracks off Bazooka Tooth that absolutely crush this album. Super Fluke, the afore-mentioned We're Famous and one of the weirdest tracks on the album : The Greatest Pac-Man Victory In History. It took me almost 3 years...

    Burial "Untrue"

And you're right Gek. This one aches. If I was in a better mood this might not seem as easy to get into.

    Burial "Untrue"

Of course I think Tim Hecker is accessible, so my standards are obviously a bit unique.

    Burial "Untrue"

I personally feel that the original album had its weak moments, that it was propped up by the strong material already released on the South London Boroughs EP. This one doesn't seem to have that weakness. Feels more fleshed out. And more immediately accessible IMO.

    Trance

I'll try and track it down. PWOG making 2-step would probably end up sounding like Toastyboy does nowadays.

    Trance

I've got some of the stuff some of the members released on ISIS. And a Dogon release, Return of the Space Echo. Wasn't aware there was a garage version of the Key, we are talking like 2-steppy garage here? Thats sounds way too good to actually exist.

    Trance

I could imagine you could get some serious mileage out of those tracks if you knew how to handle them right, they give me the same feeling as some of Villalobos' stuff. Its like "If I wasn't such a shit DJ, this beat could sound amazing".

My first impression of hearing Rhythms was "This is a DJ tool?" I'm perhaps not getting it. And 23 is plenty old to start appreciating this techno business, wouldn't you say?

    Trance

I'm too young to have caught them live, I was about 8 or 9 at their peak in 93-94. I've got a copy of Psychick Rhythms sitting next to my turntable right now, I think I like Maenad a little better than that release. Or the Kala mix of Challenge.

    Trance

If you've got a spare 20 mins give this a listen. http://www.zshare.net/audio/3240882a9f8f54/ Its hard to believe they were doing this kind of thing with hardware.

    Trance

Would this be the right place to mention Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia? Cause I'm not sure what kind of music they made, but people called it trance back then. Too deep, too much swing to be anything like what trance is now though.

Thanks for the track ID's. I didn't expect you to do the whole thing, but you did get most of the ones I was curious about. This is one of my favorite mixes from the time. Glad everyone likes it.
