    the Afro-American Roots of Kraftwerk

I didn't suggest either of those things. If you can't answer the question implicit in my post, just say so. Btw, you've used lots of quotemarks there - who are you quoting exactly?

So it was characteristic of the class that the overwhelming majority of people belonged to?

    World Cup 2014

Sterling will start, won't he? I was trying to figure this out. Assuming England play something like 4-2-3-1, which seems sensible, then it's Johnson-Cahill-Jagielka-Baines Gerrard-Wilshere Sterling-Llalana-Rooney Sturridge Of course I could just be looking at this too optimistically, and...

    Dissensible Soccer

One of you geeks must know the Anonymous guys. We could fill his team with Liverpool defenders, Palace strikers and anyone from Newcastle.

    World Cup 2014

Unless I'm missing something we're only going with 7 defenders too, rather than the usual 2/position, presumably cos Jones and Smalling are equally hopeless whether at right- or centre-back. That's no way to talk about the joint top scorer in 2010 (and Brighton's player of the year 2014).

    World Cup 2014

I'm not excited, but I think we'll (just about) achieve our usual of going out in last 16 or q/f, probably at expense of Uruguay. If there's one thing Roy H does well it's plodding his way to respectability.

    World Cup 2014

There's a lot of apathy about this, isn't there? Maybe just because England fans have given up even pretending to be excited. Or maybe just cos the PL (and CL?) has been so absorbing people have been distracted. Anyway, at the risk of this just sitting here unloved, here we go with England's...

    First Evil Protagonist

Highsmith wrote about 5 Ripley books. He doesn't start off evil, more a bit pathetic, and even when he is 'the bad guy' you're still expected to root for him. I always sense that Highsmith feels most of his misdeeds are offset by his being so damn cultured.

No predictions here. The Chelsea match is key for Liverpool. Chelsea aren't playing well, but Mourinho will come with a plan and it may well work. If Liverpool only draw, City can overtake them with straight wins. Their visit to Everton is the other huge game left this season. Big plus for...

    Roiling football blather

If it happens, it will give me no satisfaction at all to be proved right. Especially as Palace are staying up spectacularly (if endless 1-0 wins can be called spectacular). I like Hughton, he seems a rare decent bloke in a world of wankers & I like the fact he used to be a Trot (even if the...

    Sleaford Mods

Some truth in all (OK, just most - Terry Callier?), but amazed no one has mentioned Pitman. Are they seen as too serious to be associated with a novelty/comedy act?

    Netflix Recommendations

Never seen it, but people who like that kind of thing absolutely love it. Orange is the New Black meant to be good, too. And I enjoyed both series of House of Cards.

City still have to visit Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton. Chelsea only play from the top half - everyone else is relegation fodder (Stoke excepted), which I suppose means they'll have something to play for. But I'd much rather see them up against Everton or someone good.
