    Made-up languages in music

On The Big Bubble, The Residents made some songs in Mohelmot, the language of the "Mole People". If the songs on Eskimo are supposed to be in some inuit-language, then I'm pretty sure it must be a made up inuit language.

    cracked out house

Early nineties minimal trance had itself a new beat feel. Both new beat and trance have roots in EBM, so it's hardly surprizing.

    Most avant garde chart hits?

Poing was basically a minimal techno track, only faster. All variation was in the 909-programming. The poing-sound was a synth. I never cared much for the original, but there's some really great remixes, especially on the Merry X-mess-EP. It reminds me of a track called 'Distorgasm' by the...

    G. I. Gurdjieff- Harmonic Development

His piano pieces are brilliant too. I'm particular fond of the Gurdjieff/de Hartmann 2lp on Wergo, would take it over, say, Satie any day.

    Gorillaz

That have to be the lamest, most unimaginative namedropping I've ever seen. He probably don't even know any "out-there sampling artists" at all. And since when have The Residents tried to make eclectic world music within at pop context?

    either/or versus plus/and

Ha ha, yeah, good point. Maybe that's what I've been trying to say all along; the fucked up-ness is actually the way things are. Depends on how you define fucked up, though. Does something have to be unusual to be fucked up?

    either/or versus plus/and

Completely agree. We've got amazing powers, but the way we use those powers are still conditioned by the instincts developed during those 4 million years. Back then, you had to eat as much as possible whenever possible to stay alive, and therefore, today, we eat as much as possible even though...

Hm, well.... you're right about this not being the place, but I'm not really sure I'd like to start another thread about it. I allways deliberately avoid participating in the Thought-treads because I know it'll end with taking far too much time. I'm allready beginning to regret I got into this one.

Confucius, I respect your views and ideas, but there's no thinking that is not conditioned by civilization, and you're a dictionary definition, PRIME example of that.

    either/or versus plus/and

Yes you're right. But a whole formed by two parts is not a particular christian, or even western, thought. Taoism being the most obvious example, but I'm pretty sure there's more... My point was more how that dualism developed in the first place, and that, I think, is through thinking-in-opposites.

Could you please back this claim up? And are you sure ants didn't start out egalitarian to begin with? I have no intentions to do that. But the laws of biology, on the other hand, they can be manipulated. And I never said it was desirable. I just don't think there's any way "back", because...

Not sure what you're trying to say here. Is there anything that is the "opposite" of going to the shops?

So, eating is not creating destruction? Totally agree that we're destroying the conditions sustaining us, though, but as said before, so would other species if they had the same power we do. "Due to it's nature", exactly. Unequal power relations, unlike all other species where there's no...

    either/or versus plus/and

I disagree. We're able to rebel against that base, though, but it's still there. Where do you get this nonsense from? Nature being a balance of terror is a conclusion I come to watching nature, not watching humanity. Animals, even within the same species, fight all the time. Of course, to...

    either/or versus plus/and

Au contraire, the human world is fucked up because we're not separate enough from nature, still behaving like the selfish beasts we are. Nature is a balance of terror, basically. It could also be put this way: the world seem "fucked up" to us because we're not so separate from nature that we...

    either/or versus plus/and

As much as I don't care for christianity, I don't think it's the culprit here. The explanation is probably much more simple: the concept of dualism arise because of sexual reproduction, the existence of two genders trick people into thinking in opposites - if we had three genders, I'd bet...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

If anything, Schönberg tried to continue the tradition that had led to late romanticism. There were other alternatives, but he deliberately wanted to make a continuation of that tradition, not break with it. Some serial composers were obsessed with mathematical logic and clarity, but Schönberg...

A Guy Called Gerald returns to Jungle!

Your point is probably right, but examples like wah wah and fuzztone are far too narrow to capture the potential of the 303 (or similar sounds/machines), let alone the incredibly many ways it have been used. It's both a sound and a way of using that sound... after all, you can make acid without...

A Guy Called Gerald returns to Jungle!

Sure: Lots of horrible vocals. As for Black Secret Technology, I only got that album three years ago, and was massively underwhelmed by it. Especially the drum programming just seemed so... unfuturistic. Very little cutting up or manipulation, an old fashioned "tribal" sound, almost. Oh, and...
