KAN YAY OR KAN NAY? (The Kanye West Thread)

Album of the year in the Grauniad. The comments btl are good examples of what Tom Lea said- people who dont like him don't just ignore him http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2013/dec/20/best-albums-2013-kanye-west-number-1

    Roiling football blather

That World Cup draw is.. well.. But seeding Switzerland is ridiculous - one of Chile, Spain and Holland will be out, because Holland played a friendly against Indonesia.

    Dissensible Soccer

Yeah, we've been getting destroyed by him since way before it was fashionable, too. A couple of seasons ago, he didn't actually score that many goals on the whole. He was quite wasteful as a finisher except against us when he'd ping them in from everywhere, the chipmunk faced racist.

    Dissensible Soccer

Everyone in the Norwich City supporters league had him - one part emotional hedge to four parts no-brainer acknowledgement of what was going to go down.

Yup. I thought the same about the way he wrote the black characters, all teeth sucking and jewellery. A joke he was in no position to make funny.

    Best Of 2013 Lists

Yup, by a mile, too. I really liked Last Exit by Junior Boys, and this is produced with one of them, but she's got a much more interesting voice and better songs. Also I'm getting old and my tastes are changing - I might not have loved this as much a few years ago.

Smiley's People is my favourite, but that, Tinker Tailor and the Spy who Came in are all pretty great. Smiley's People is the best cos it's pure mood music, the slowly shifting plates of the Cold War in Europe. George Smiley is an amazing character, like Rich said he's the defeat of empire in...

deit: way too late, didn't see mistersloane had posted it ages ago, to which crackerjack had already replied with another good piece anyway, I've read some good stuff on the internet about this and i agree with much of it. There.

    Drum'n'Bass 2013 (???)

On a slightly different note, it's really interesting to see drum n bass fulfilling it's pop potential over the last couple of years. I was watching the MOBOs the other night and this was on <html><iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/M97vR2V4vTs" frameborder="0"...

I'm reading KLF: Chaos, Magic, Music and Money by John Higgs. It's fucking great, and a totally different take on the standard music biog. It's sort of chronological - so Echo and the Bunnymen and Julian Cope come before the JAMMS who come before the KLF, but it's really a bunch of tangents...

    Where to live in London?

It's a quiet area. There's a lot of young middle class parents moving there from Hackney cos the houses are bigger/ cheaper and have gardens, but it's on the overground so uts well connected. There's not much to do but New Cross and Peckham are nearby.
