Um, this isn't really narrowing it down? More information? Re "I Feel", yeah amazing tune. People who want an almost-full high quality version should get the Ministry of Sound UK Funky comp from last year, it's the last track on the Supa D and if you just listen to the track by itself it's...

No the tune at 31 min is Rudimental's "Midnight" (or "Midnight Affair") - but one of my favourites of the year too! "House Girls Part 8" is the tune at 56 minutes. Ben, I don't know the name or origin of the tune before the Ill Blu one but it's a refix of Booka Shade's "In White Rooms".

That's the one! They've added some synths and layers and things (i.e. Blu's bits) but it still sounds totally evil.

Now if only Funkystepz would give away "Lovers" and "Hurricane Riddim" too... The last two Marcus Nasty Rinse sets have been MASSIVE. The 21 April set not only rewinds "House Girls Part 8" THRICE, but has THAT ILL BLU TUNE, the insane and as of yet unreleased one they put on youtube that sounds...

Andy, I think you mean Ill-Mana's "Kiss You" - BIG TUNE. And happily downloadable here:

LOVING this set. Last Supper are so effortlessly hype filled!

That's Footsteps' "Rewind". Great track. That, Funkystepz's "Lovers" and Rudimental's "Midnight" are my favourite vocal tracks of 2010 so far I think.

Although I'd endorse the above, I'd disagree a little bit with some of your comments on your piece re slackks' mix, Dan. As occasionally ambiguous as he was, I think it's pretty clear that Marcus's complaints weren't about grimey tracks, or even grimey MCs per se, but specifically the practice...

Shantie's guest spot on Rudimental's "Midnight" makes me so happy - it's like he's a funky celebrity now! I wouldn't read an awful amount into the decline of skank tracks - really that just means the end of MCing-as-novelty. What is becoming much more common is tracks that are fairly blatantly...

MCing isn't essential for me but I love it on funky even in full-on Petchy mode. I guess because funky always remains so danceable that I don't actually associate it entirely with grime, which had abandoned anything so danceable by the end of 2002. I said this on the same topic on ILM: I...

Would also like an ID on that one, I've always guessed it to be Devine Collective because the horn line reminds me of "Tribal Conga" a bit.

    Roska!Roska!Roska!Roska!Rosk- ugh, just stop!

Funky producer signatures rated: Roska - Somewhat boring in and of itself, but the rhythmic repetitiveness of 'roska!roska!roska!' sounds great when dropped at the right moment of a track. 6 Crazy Cousinz - The "Whoop!" works in so many settings, is instantly reognisable without being so...

Yeah, back when dude was fresh, now he's so played out eh.

Yeah one of my favourite things about this new Petchy set is the way all the MCs chant along to the biggest bars of whichever MC is on "lead". Petchy's sets seem to split three ways between 1) Devine Collective tracks; 2) A representative sampling of big-across-the-board tracks; and 3) tracks...

    Funky/London/UK House

I guess one thing with UK funky is that it's all very either/or - you can have rollicking low-bit radio sets with awesome MCs and up-to-the-time tunes, or you can have clean but mostly somewhat inferior high-quality DJ sets put together by second tier DJs (with or without second tier MCs), or...

Xpost - thanks for the petchy set I mean! Gumdrops ha I totally read that entire post sarcastically! Obv it has a totally different meaning if taken at face value... Apologies!

Actually gumdrops I think if you read my post again without simply assuming I'm being snobbish you'll see that I'm actually defending people's suspicion of radio sets as somewhat reasonable - even though I like them myself.

Andy, obv I agree with you! I don't know why you'd prefer a polished mix over, say, the Petchy/Topsy/Dream set. But I think many people have become used to the ready availability of high-bit-rate, profesh mini-mixes and the like, supported with nice artwork and tracklists and the like. Which...
