    Datapocalypse

Don't understand. What is this too much information thing you speak of? Actually, if it's too much music to listen to, limit myself to about two hours of new stuff a week. Other than that, 3 books, 77 RSS feeds, 8 magazines and 2 national newspapers a day per month seems OK. I mean, do people...

What does the music you listen to say about YOU?

I'd say that my music taste reveals that I have a short attention span. I tend to collect types of musc and then stop when I've got a certain amount becauase I'm bored with it. I really relate to that Peel quote "I'm more interested in the record I haven't heard yet."

I collected £13,000 in lost rings so far this year

Is it at gig venues/clubs? Sure I remember Kurt Cobain saying he made money/got stuff picking it off the floor afterwards? Other guess...swimming pools?

    I hate Sigur Ros!

So I'm a nitwit and you can't place them in context? Coldplay has little to do with them - they predate Coldplay and haven't really changed their style, just worked on their quality control. See for me Coldplay are Radiohead-lite and nothing to do with Sigur Ros. Whereas, Flying Saucer Attack...

    I hate Sigur Ros!

Yeah, I've always disliked the band but the new album is great. He's finally toned down the histronics that ruined the previous albums. I guess the only thing I would say that it's probably the last iteration of the whole post-shoegaze thing. I can't see anywhere for it to go - the beatific...

    Bob Mould Interview

Anyone heard that dance track off the new album? Bit rubbish if you ask me, although Husker Du and Sugar always had an experimental edge didn't they? Remember Beaster - fucking intense record...

Shot by both sides - what happened

Just got news that blog Shot By Both Sides was forced to go offline his employer was blackmailed into sacking him. What happened? Is that right? Anyone got the details? Sounds a bit worrying. He's not too happy about it... http://www.stalinism.com/shot-by-both-sides/

    Who's better...

Point taken about Barney's lyrics, although I would argue that although the content's a bit rubbish sometimes, he could read out a shopping list and it would emote. Morrissey's lyrics are top but that's my point, unfair or not. It's the classic boring music, interesting lyrics dichtomy - that...

    Who's better...

The Smiths Vs. New Order New Order. A long time ago I posted a rant about The Smiths saying... "IMHO they represented the sort of white boy indie miserablism that was everything that was wrong with the 80's. Fuck experimentation, fuck any sesne of progression when we can whine behind our...

when popular culture meets other culture...

The audience looked kind of bemused didn't they? In answer to the original question, I guess the history of popular culture mixing with other cultures - and as this is the music forum, classical music in particular has been somewhat patchy. On one hand you have Phillip Glass remixing...
