Name musicians/bands/producers you've never heard and probably never will hear

Eh, you should listen to Prefuse 73. Especially One Word Extinguisher

    Teeth Dread

Do people regularly go to the hygienist? I had never seen the point in this seeing as a scale and polish at the dentist never seems to do anything in particular but apparently this is like really important for gums and oral hygiene and the type of cleaning you get is totally different from a...

Where do you guys get your news from?

Yeh I think that's a good point. I didn't think it was obvious that she was any different. I guess I'm just more willing to give nutcases some sort of moral legitimacy I guess. There sounds like the makings of an interesting novel there though.

Where do you guys get your news from?

I think it's pretty self righteous to call that piece righteous.

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

Hmm yeah it really is definitely verging on overcooked. I guess that's part of the reason I like it, though the style would definitely grate in other contexts. I haven't seen any of his other work so maybe I'm just seeing it through a very warped lens.

    The Carbon Thread

'Technology will save the day' is the standard response to these concerns. Isn't the obvious conclusion to take from all this is that technology was a huge part of the problem all along? And that we need less technology, not more?

I can't tell the tone of this post.

where will you go when you cant afford london?

The Left has always tended towards fissiparousness ideological purification hasn't it. It's a negative side-effect of being principled. I think purposeful challenge to the capitalist system can only come from stuff like this...

Where do you guys get your news from?

Watching BBC News is like watching a bad parody of a dystopian future world. I think they should just have a channel to cover all the brutal crime and such like, seeing as it makes up such a large portion of what the news covers. I tend to avoid the news now as I don't want to hear any more...

I'm selling a load more books

Might take the Isherwood off you when I get paid. Kind of fascinated by Weimar Germany and wish there was more media available about it. There probably is and I just don't know.

    what are you reading now?

Read the new David Graeber 'Utopia of Rules' about bureaucracy after enjoying Debt a few years back. He's a really nice writer, has a way of making quite complex arguments and structures have a very discursive and relaxed feel as he takes you through them. This book sometimes tends towards sub...

    Teeth Dread

Teeth are disgusting in and of themselves though aren't they. They're big rocks that grow out of your mouth. Your mouth is like a big mineral accretion-hole for crushing things in. Disgusting. I broke my front tooth in an ill-advised skateboarding accident (don't go on a half-pipe the first...

    UK Election non-frenzy

Find it difficult to know where Labour can go from here. Top job must be a poisoned chalice if ever there was one - I thought Miliband was actually pretty astute in his wangling. Is the English public that biddable? What is going on there?

    UK Election non-frenzy

Shy Tories will be the ones who say 'I don't know' when asked who they're going to vote for. You can't say that walking out after having cast your vote.

    UK Election non-frenzy

Yes well played craner. Says something of your judgement that I bought your analysis immediately, I have to say. All in all, pretty depressing stuff. I can't imagine another situation where the Tories have looked so ideologically and practically weak and yet they've done better than (almost)...

    what are you reading now?

I tend to agree actually, I think that supplementary notes on stuff like that have helped me in the past. Danuta Borchardt's translation of Gombrowicz's Ferdydurke (incidentally a favourite novel of Bolano's) has a nice essay about the translation process attached that explains a few...
