    Unpopular opinions

A thread for defending unpopular opinions. No one's going to agree but I'll make a case for defending. First is that I like Calibre, at least his good tracks. I've seen him get derided, lumped in with a lot of bad liquid DnB, but his drums were always slinkier than most other 2 step DnB, and...

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

Narrow Margin. Too basic a plot padded out by action scenes, would have been better if someone like Paul Verhoeven directed, but not the worst Hackman film I've seen, which would be Targets... which had some awful acting from Matt Dillon and poor chemistry with Hackman.

I like some of his shorts like Boat and Steps.

    David Lynch Thread

The skull crusher crackhead from Twin Peaks s3 was good, when it goes all 'nuclear' with the warped filtered noise sequence. Got my sister into the whole of Twin Peaks and there was a time when the thought of season 3 coming out kept me going, it turned out to have some very 'nostalgic' bits...

    David Lynch Thread

I'm named after Lost Highway, but seem to rate Inland Empire a lot higher than most, almost his magnum opus of ideas condensed into his most stylistic film. One of the best bits, a bit marmite, is where Laura Dern looks at camera and says "Sweeeet". His music is nice too. Seen it criticised as...

    Larry Levan

Love the first TC Curtis track. He's a DJ because the whole is better than the individual tracks, something I struggled with, with vastly different tempos etc, and not a DJ structure to tracks like straight House or Techno. That's why my mix is still a work in progress.

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

Synecdoche, New York. I like Charlier Kaufman as far as Anomalisa and Being John Malkovich go, but this was pretentious! I don't usually call things that.

    Paul Simon (and Garfunkel)

I like Paul Simon, but this post reminded me of when I was 'sectioned'. We had little music workshops with people playing different instruments, mostly just drumming along with bongos to this.

    The Weather.

Too cold, even for the Roach fishing I've been doing, but enjoyed the fog over Christmas.

    Artificial intelligence officially gets scary

I'm using it for work as inventory clerk. All I have to do now is take photos of a house, and it analyses the pictures for me, saying stuff like "White UPVC Front Door - Good condition however minor scuff marks to lower areas and a chip on the handle". It does it quicker and better than I can do...

RATE: characters/plot/style/ideas in novels & plays

Tempted to go for style, as it often fits the way I watch films, but then the deeper I watch it, usually second time round, I'd put plot first. Something like Pale Flower is highly stylised but lacks the plot and characters of the best American films. Ideas I think has to be up there but work...

    Bats

They are down the park I fish. I often catch a Carp just as it gets dark, and they fly into the line as I'm playing the fish!
