Its like a fantasmic re-imagining of New York, almost a similar thing (from a hip hop perspective) as K-Punk argues John Foxx did with London on "Metamatic", but everything here is rotten and rusted to fuck. The sheet metal strings on "Pigeon" made me think of the ominous beginning to Bernard...

That does sound quite sadistic. Though to be honest the work schedule for undergraduate law at Oxford (if you ACTUALLY did what you were supposed to) was just as brutal (but without computer programming/writing in German). I fail to believe that a single person actually did tho.

Seriously tho the one classic King Crimson record is "Red"- bleak, furious avant-metal riffing, clattering percussive attacks, sinister lowercase improv, Fin de siècle doomed ur-ballads... and by far their most imaginatively rich and chunky production. On earlier albums Fripp's guitars sound...

I always felt a touch sorry for Vordul... in the shadow both literally and figuratively of Vast Aire... There was talk of a follow-up (for Can Ox). Dunno what happened though.

I'm dreading having to read 60 pages of Hegel in a single week (on top of lots of other stuff). It takes 2 hours to read 10 pages... and even then to be honest you need to re-read it multiple times to get all the subtleties... sigh.

It was a bit odd cos Def Jux basically got it perfectly right with their first full length and it all went rapidly downhill from there (ie same but worse beats- less subtle more beligerant, less funky-- and less nuanced emotionally resonant haunting lyrics and just tired urban angst...) And...
