    Soul Jazz Records

Soul Jazz does so few actual "reissues" that it's kind of hard to compare them to other reissue labels. They put together nice well packaged but usually inessential comps which generally serve as good jumping off points. I'd like Blood & Fire if they put more and later stuff out. I don't...

what's yer top 10 - albums, singles, whatever

"5) Sleepy Dog riddim - Steely & Clevie Superb rhythm, with pounding beats, big drops and synth riffs, several pretty good vocal versions and two great ones by Mr Vegas and Famous Face" I have an Elephant Man ("Girls Anthem" an interpolation of "Deep and Wide") and Spragga Benz ("Wine Up On...

    Beat24-7

Has anyone heard of this website? The concept sounds kind of neat and I imagine the quality would be higher than random mp3s and a comp of Dextrous tracks would be sweet. http://www.beats24-7.com/tol/index_frame.html

blackdown soundboy on standards of grime lyricism

Woops your right, I completely spaced on the rest of it. Either way that's really the only lift.

    Shizuo

Whatever happened to Christoph De Babalon? I like his record more than any of Catani's (or Shizuo's or Empire's for that matter.) He seemed to totally disappear after that too.

blackdown soundboy on standards of grime lyricism

This was a pretty minor borrowing ya know as only the "state your name bit" was copped (their are no follow up questions on the Ruff Ryders track and the beat/tempo/everything else except that fact that a bunch of MCs are on it is completely different and even the question itself is asked in...

Ego Trip's Big Book Of Racism

If you can find it you should also watch the four specials Ego Trip has done for VH-1. They are really funny and probably the only place you will see Pharaohe Monch these days.

    belgian hardcore

Actually looking at the R&S discogs thing there are a hell of lot more than just a couple, but they aren't exclusively Belgian either (a lot of 'ardkore hits mixed in there.)

    belgian hardcore

There are a couple of R&S comps (Vintage R&S, I think?) that are really good. I don't think commercial CD mixes really caught on until after the Belgian hey day (I don't think there are any big bleep mixes either, but I could be wrong about both.)

General Degree - "Pot Cover" - Is anything else like this??

Are you guys sure this tune is self-produced by General Degree? 400% lists S. Marsden as the co-writer which would indicate to me that it is a Lenky tune.

Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

I'd be surprised if Run The Road sells many more copies than Wiley's album did in this country (they had ONE, count 'em, ONE new copy at Amoeba yesterday.)

Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

You don't the fact that it was released in the States by Matador had more to do with it?

I've had the sad misfortune of reading that as well.

    More MIA

No, he's written about 50,000 words on why he basically resents her "fans" (one of the great strawmen ever.) He's spent a couple of sentences on what he resents about her (although, of course, even that veers dangerously close to simply being an indictment of her "friends"--who oh irony of...
