Recording guitar to computer/general guitar techie questions

Ah, soz, I figured you already had an audio interface but wanted a good guitar sound. Personally, I plug any instruments into a cheap mixer (Behringer Eurorack) & then straight into a USB audio interface (Tascam US-122), record straight into logic & then mess with it there. I'm sure you can...

Recording guitar to computer/general guitar techie questions

Maybe this? The full-size Line 6 POD is supposed to be the standard, really, & you can probably grab one for under £100 on ebay. Robust too.

Spacemen3 book - anyone read it?

God, along with the Jesus & Mary Chain they basically invented shoegaze. In fact, I reckon Spacemen 3 were even more important than J&MC, what with their ten minute tuneups between each song & resolute non-acknowledgement of the audience. J&MC couldn't see their audience for all the smoke &...

    Music that is psychedelic

"...executives at Polydor Records were less than impressed with the tracks' mind-bending sound - and have refused to release the disc until the group reworks the songs. Frontman Jamie Reynolds says, "We've been asked to re-record part of the album because we've made a dense, psychedelic record...

    Watchmen

Seriously, it was crazy, I could actually HEAR the honk. It went NUUUUUUUURRR!!!! & just for a second I saw the spectre of this tanned Hollywood producerprick in a policeman's outfit wagging his finger in my face & laughing in a helpless mocking way. Crazy. It's weird when first impressions...

    Watchmen

Yeah, that kiss really was the catshit on the souffle wasn't it? The catshit on the catshit was his little speechette about loving her back. I seem to remember them messing up the multiple unmasking at the end too ... that was amazingly effective in the book. Really phenomenally scripted...

    Lost Books/Unrealised Projects

Yeah, that's a good one. Would love to have seen that built. Bruno Taut's crystal architecture for the alps is my own favourite uncompleted 'building'. Pure unadulterated utopianism. Edwin Lutyen's Liverpool Cathedral is a close second. Gibberd's wigwam rots with concrete cancer in a small...

what music do you 'return' to?

Smashing Pumpkins definitely do the trick ... one play of 1979 & I'm right back there on the carpet of my bedroom floor as a kid. It's so real. Phantom carpet syndrome. & Jackalope!!

    Watchmen

V was better than I expected but the palette (emotional, physical) seemed completely wrong & I HATED the copout spittleflecked figurehead ... as if fascism & intolerance was a spell cast from above that you could snap people out of by turning off the projector or cutting off the monster's head...

Spacemen3 book - anyone read it?

Pfff ... that should be enough of a legacy for any band :D Actually, a whole bunch of the musicians I hang out with at the moment are total Sonic Boom acolytes, right down to only playing in A or E & the nursing of ostentatious yet minor smack habits. Sonic & Jason are worshipped with...

what music do you 'return' to?

I'm listening to the minimalists & 60s drone blokes more & more these days. When I was younger it was because I wanted to blot everything out in a kindof whiteout sungazing semireligious bliss, feeling hot & cold, coddled & desolate, all at the same time. Well, that's still there, assisted by...

    The GAY rapper/HIPHOP question

I'd love it if Suge Knight was gay. My friend met Mike Tyson at a fashion party & said that it was well-known among the models that he was a good solid man-ogling bisexual.

Spacemen3 book - anyone read it?

Spacemen 3 are great ... tons of obsessive detail, very specific with amps, odd tunings, etc. Not just 'an indie band' at all. Far weirder & more rigorous. Roots in La Monte Young, etc. The live version of 'Suicide' justifies their rather humourless existence all on its own.

Spacemen3 book - anyone read it?

The amazing writing of Erik 'Dreamweapon' Morse: "The guitarist's lithe 74-inch frame only reaffirmed his enormous presence as he stood watching from three rows back, his eyes locked onto Jason's, before circling the perimeter at Will, Jonny, and Mark." A monkey. A monkey could write a better...

    exercise?!?!

I trained with those guys a bit when they used to be in Finsbury Park. Some good guys in that class, lots of people with different skills, plenty of stuff to learn. Been meaning to go back for ages but it's been about five years since I've done anything more strenuous than cycling & I'm...

books: sci-fi by non genre authors

Just finished "Oryx & Crake" by Margaret Atwood. Very funny, very scary. Cardboard characters but a nice fatalism about scientific progress. (While scientists are society's golden goose, do you want the future direction of mankind to be decided by a group of socially alienated elitists with...
