the difficulty of those "jerky" drum patterns seems entirely dependent on there being massive bass to make them tense. it'd be easy to soften that bass, maybe add some melody to it, and the drums are a few tweaks away from Timbaland-esque cool.

can anyone name specific dubstep records that exemplify 'joyless plodding half-step'? are you talking about things like the Caspa EP on Dub Police? a relatively straight track like "Jeffrey & Bungle" may point at what seems to be the wrong direction, but still sounds fresh to me, even if it does...

yeah that cover's pretty bad. you'd think they could have at least chosen a picture of Wiley that was in focus. my fav low-budget grime cover so far is Ghetto's 2000 & Life, for the traffic light tree.

there are many, many jungle versions of Bounty Killer (and others) on the Greensleeves Ragga Jungle comps. if anyone knows of more collections in this vein, i'd love to know. as for jungle/dnb-flavored riddims, Black Attack from 2004 (i think?) was dnb-esque, though i'm sure that was unintentional.

it's a great great album. most of it just rolls with a quintessentially jungle attitude, and the vibes run deep. definitely my favorite thing(s) he's done, along with that Planet Mu 12" and "Comatose" on Inperspective.

Kode9 recently implied it'd be in Forced Exposure, at least. the only vinyl (besides the previous EP), as far as i know, will supposedly contain (i think) 3 album tracks and a remix.

absolutely. the sensibility is just so instantly distinct and all-encompassing. it's actually the first record that's ever inspired me in a visual art context. the distinctness of its sound seems to bleed into other senses too; visual and tactile (of course) ... for me anyhow.

did i miss it, or has Aim High 3 barely been talked about? it's available now, right?
