DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

the difficulty of those "jerky" drum patterns seems entirely dependent on there being massive bass to make them tense. it'd be easy to soften that bass, maybe add some melody to it, and the drums are a few tweaks away from Timbaland-esque cool.

Drum and Bass fans invading Dubstep

not to harp on the bass thing, but hearing dubstep on a big rig really does emphasize/validate the primacy of the low-end, which helped me grasp its particular dialectic between percussion and 'vibration'. once the bass becomes so much more physically and sonically compelling, the pressure's...

Drum and Bass fans invading Dubstep

he was there! i was hoping he'd blog about it, but nothing yet.... dubstep's bass science certainly has a lot more potential to live up to--i think it'd be a mistake to wish for the sound to more closely resemble 2-step, or slowed-down pre-97 dnb as opposed to post-97 dnb. DMZ tracks like...

Drum and Bass fans invading Dubstep

can anyone name specific dubstep records that exemplify 'joyless plodding half-step'? are you talking about things like the Caspa EP on Dub Police? a relatively straight track like "Jeffrey & Bungle" may point at what seems to be the wrong direction, but still sounds fresh to me, even if it does...

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

yeah that cover's pretty bad. you'd think they could have at least chosen a picture of Wiley that was in focus. my fav low-budget grime cover so far is Ghetto's 2000 & Life, for the traffic light tree.

    ragga / dancehall / jungle

there are many, many jungle versions of Bounty Killer (and others) on the Greensleeves Ragga Jungle comps. if anyone knows of more collections in this vein, i'd love to know. as for jungle/dnb-flavored riddims, Black Attack from 2004 (i think?) was dnb-esque, though i'm sure that was unintentional.

    this Breakage album

it's a great great album. most of it just rolls with a quintessentially jungle attitude, and the vibes run deep. definitely my favorite thing(s) he's done, along with that Planet Mu 12" and "Comatose" on Inperspective.

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Kode9 recently implied it'd be in Forced Exposure, at least. the only vinyl (besides the previous EP), as far as i know, will supposedly contain (i think) 3 album tracks and a remix.

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

absolutely. the sensibility is just so instantly distinct and all-encompassing. it's actually the first record that's ever inspired me in a visual art context. the distinctness of its sound seems to bleed into other senses too; visual and tactile (of course) ... for me anyhow.

Tate where/when do you spin? I'd love to hear "9th Hand" on a dancefloor... In addition to some of the aforementioned releases, I'm really looking forward to the next couple on Subtle Audio: Fanu - I Play It Cooler / Heavenless Sileni - Pressing Buttons / Failspan / Bouncing Octagonal...
