    The Incredible Roberto Bolaño

It's absolutely incredible - I'm on "The Part About the Murders" and every page has been incredibly written. He was definitely one of the best prose stylists operating anywhere. The thought that this was just his first draft is astounding.

    The Record Industry's Decline

I used to work in a lower tier in the 'industry' and this is just the tip of the iceberg for ridiculous stuff that happens every single day. It's a huge house of cards that has been allowed to coast along incompetently for years. In many cases, projections are considered gold standard in terms...

    The Record Industry's Decline

This stuff goes on all the time in the industry, it's certainly not limited to EMI. For this reason, and many others, the industry only has itself to blame. It's just too bad that the behemoths have a tendency to drag down smaller fish as well.

lets find a dissensus best hardcore record list

Has anyone mentioned Bolt Thrower, yet? If we can include Autopsy (and let's stick in some Abscess as well) they would definitely qualify. Thinking especially from "In Battle There Is No Law" to "Realms of Chaos". Also no mention of Rudimentary Peni yet? How about "The EP's of RP"?

    Sci-fi must-reads and must-views

Pat Cadigan's "Tea From An Empty Cup" pulled off the 'hip' future world quite well... still has its silly moments. Gibson's future dub is rather cringe-worthingly described, but "Neuromancer" is still a good read.

lets find a dissensus best hardcore record list

All hail the first Blasphemy reference ever on Dissensus...Ross Bay Cult! VON could fit on the list nicely as well.

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

Anybody that hasn't seen "Mystics in Bali" needs to do so now. ..and the Coffin Joe series of films are some of my favourite features ever.

    Recommend me some psychedelic films

...oh, and one more great historical sci-fi film: Sergei Paradjanov's "Ashik Kerib". His "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" is like a giant Ukrainian fever dream as well. Incredible stuff!

    Recommend me some psychedelic films

Ever checked out any of the films of Fernando Arrabal? He co-founded the Panic Movement along with Jodorowsky, was the 'writer' of "Fando y Lis" and their films occasionally have moments that approximate the feel of Jodorowsky's work. The Guernica Tree I Will Walk Like A Crazy Horse Viva La...

    Worst Film You've Ever Seen

I'd like to amend my vote in total agreement with the above statement. 2 and a half bloody hours of my life down the tubes.

    Worst Film You've Ever Seen

Is it at least comically bad? I have a screening copy here and don't know whether it will be a complete waste of time or not. My nomination -> Van Sant's "Elephant". I'd say "Last Days" but I was smart enough to turn that one off 15 minutes in.

Desi/Bhangra - Potential Hardcore Continuum Mutation?

Lehmber Hussainpuri is the MAN. I have a number of collections of his stuff (including "Folk Attack" and "The King") and his voice is incredible. "Folk Attack" is almost exclusively produced by Dr. Zeus making for the most satisfying complete listening experience I've heard from LH to date...

    current kids films thread

My daughter really enjoyed the recent adaptation of "Horton Hears A Who" and (especially compared to the craptacular takes on Seuss recently) it was actually quite enjoyable. Also captured the feel of his illustrations and the practical use of his whirlygigs quite inventively. The best part...

More names (not necessarily all great, but all fairly big): Buck 65 Classified Grand Analog Mood Ruff Peanuts & Corn collective (mcenroe, John Smith, Pip Skid, etc.) birdapres Cadence Weapon All of them are more (what would normally be describe as) 'indie' Hip-Hop and are from the prairies or...

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

"Doomsday". Horrible. Enjoyed "Dog Soldiers" and "The Descent" but "Doomsday" was the most uninspired, unentertaining pastiche of old films I've ever seen and I went in expecting just some dumb fun only to be let down on every possible level. One of the most awful things I've seen in ages.

    Recommend me...

Not electro, but I recently discovered Transmission, the pre-Swans project of Jonathan Kane and Daniel Galliduani, which sounds almost exactly like some of the 'afro-noise' Whitehouse has been layering behind their rants recently. A friend recommended them to me after I kept going on and on...

    your top ten films (?)

I just saw Carnival of Souls as well for the first time ever a few weeks ago and entirely agree. The sense of DREAD that overhangs everything makes for a hugely tense viewing experience, and the micro-budget doesn't get in the way at all...in fact the ramshackle nature of the film almost...

    Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

If I recall correctly it made $3 million + in its first week and actually broke into the Top 10 films in the country. (insert shudder here)
